Spoilers for all of The Night Agent Season 2. Peter Sutherland and his allies stop a chemical attack, but the finale leaves Peter compromised: he has given Jacob Monroe secret United Nations documents and accepted a covert assignment to investigate Monroe’s ties to President-elect Richard Hagan. Season 3 is already streaming on Netflix, so Season 2’s ending is the place to pick up the story.
What was Project Foxglove, and why was Peter pulled into it?
Season 2 opens about nine months after the first season. Peter has moved from answering the Night Action phone to working in the program’s secretive field operation. His first assignment takes him to Thailand with partner Alice. After Alice is killed, Peter suspects a leak, but the threat proves wider than Night Action: the trail reaches the CIA and the White House.
The central secret is Project Foxglove, a shuttered CIA program that developed potential chemical weapons and antidotes. One weapon, called KX, survived the program’s shutdown. General Viktor Bala obtains a sample while imprisoned and seeking proof of American involvement. He turns to intelligence broker Jacob Monroe, who uses information and influence to maneuver events.
Bala’s son Tomás and nephew Markus pursue a KX attack as retaliation. Their plan draws on confidential information from the Iranian Mission, putting Noor Taheri—an aide there who becomes Peter and Rose’s ally—inside the widening crisis.

How did Peter, Rose, and Noor stop the attack?
Peter joins forces with Rose Larkin and Noor. In the finale, Peter, Catherine Weaver, Rose, and law enforcement converge on the United Nations and stop the planned KX attack. The danger does not end there: they also foil a follow-up assault at the fictional Wynnfield Hotel. Peter and Rose eliminate Markus and shut down the weapon.
The immediate catastrophe is averted, but Peter has made a consequential choice on Monroe’s behalf: he stole confidential UN documents and handed them to the broker. Monroe remains free, and the documents leave Peter exposed to the very man Catherine wants him to investigate.

That leaves the season’s power balance unresolved. Monroe is free, Hagan is poised to become president, and Peter is now operating between them while carrying the consequences of his own breach of trust.

- Noor and Azita: After Noor’s brother Farhad dies, Noor and her mother receive asylum and settle in Illinois. Rose meets Noor at her new library job.
- Rose: She has returned to California and received a career promotion, even as she and Peter agree to stay apart.

What should carry into Season 3?
- Foxglove and KX: The season’s threat begins with a surviving chemical weapon from a defunct CIA program.
- Monroe’s leverage: He brokers information and now holds confidential UN documents Peter stole for him.
- Peter’s divided loyalties: Catherine has tasked him with investigating Monroe and Hagan, while Peter must reckon with how far he went to serve Monroe.
- Peter and Rose’s distance: Their feelings remain, but they have chosen separation as a safety measure.
Showrunner Shawn Ryan described the series’ political duty this way: “I don’t think you’re supposed to be loyal to a president as a Night Agent,” he told Netflix Tudum. “You’re supposed to be loyal to an institution and to an ethos. You’re supposed to be loyal to America and defending it against enemies within and without.” The finale tests that distinction by leaving Peter accountable for choices made in the name of a mission.

Gabriel Basso, who plays Peter, also told Tudum: “What I love about this show is [that] all the decisions have consequences. On other shows, sometimes main characters make decisions and they get away with it. On The Night Agent people are punished.” Peter’s stolen documents, his separation from Rose, and his new assignment all make that consequence-driven setup central to where the story goes next.
