The Netflix series about a Memphis-based funeral home is Buried by the Bernards, a reality show following the Bernard family and their funeral business, R. Bernard Funeral Services. Netflix frames its premise around family dynamics, humor and the work of helping grieving families say farewell.
What is Buried by the Bernards about?
Netflix describes the Bernards as a “bickering but big-hearted” family managing a budget-friendly funeral home while serving grieving families. The series draws its premise from the contrast between an unconventional family workplace and the serious, emotionally difficult nature of funeral care. The humor is part of the show’s framing; it is a reality series, not a scripted comedy.
The business at the center is R. Bernard Funeral Services in Memphis. Netflix’s Media Center says Ryan Bernard opened the family-owned and operated funeral home in 2017 to offer affordable funeral packages. That background explains why the Memphis connection is more than a setting: the series follows a real family business.
When did the series arrive on Netflix?
Netflix’s Media Center lists February 12, 2021, as the series’ release date. The title page and Media Center present it as a Netflix reality series about the Bernard family’s funeral-home operation.
Is it the same show as Death Inc.?
No. Netflix describes Death Inc. as a comedy about the fictional Torregrosa Funeral Home. Buried by the Bernards, by contrast, is a reality series centered on the Bernards and their Memphis business. The format and setting distinguish the two.
