Summer 2025 brought a mix of new anime premieres and returning stories. For a fresh start, put Gachiakuta at the top of your list; if you already follow a series, consider Dandadan Season 2 or Kaiju No. 8 Season 2. These are curated picks, not an objective ranking, and the season announcements do not establish a single best show.
New series to try this summer
Gachiakuta
Gachiakuta is the clearest choice if you want to start something new rather than catch up on earlier episodes. Crunchyroll highlighted it in its Summer 2025 lineup, and it also appeared on U-NEXT’s Japan schedule. Its inclusion makes it a useful fresh-start pick; the announcements alone do not establish that it is the season’s most popular or highest-rated series.
Secrets of the Silent Witch
This is another new-season option listed by Crunchyroll and U-NEXT. Choose it if you would rather begin a newly scheduled title than follow another season of a series already in progress. The lineup sources confirm its place in the season, but do not provide a basis for ranking it against the other picks.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus
Also included in both seasonal schedules, Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus is a new installment within an existing franchise, so it is not the same kind of fresh start as a new series. If you have not watched earlier entries, check the official synopsis and viewing order before jumping in.

Returning stories worth catching up on
Dandadan Season 2
For viewers who enjoyed the first season, Dandadan Season 2 is the leading returning-series pick. Crunchyroll announced it in its lineup, and U-NEXT included it in its Japan schedule. It is best approached as a continuation: start with Season 1 if you have not seen it.
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 is another returning franchise named in both services’ announcements. As with any second season, it is a stronger choice for viewers who have already followed the story than for someone looking for a self-contained entry point.

Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Cour 2
This listing is specifically Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Cour 2, a continuing cour—not a new standalone anime or a first season. Viewers should be caught up on the preceding Dr. STONE story before starting it. Crunchyroll’s lineup identifies it under this title.
Where the Summer 2025 announcements apply
Crunchyroll published its lineup on June 18, 2025, and updated the article on July 16 to add Dragon Raja II –The Mourner’s Eyes–. It is Crunchyroll’s announced seasonal lineup, not proof that every listed title was available in every country. Check the service’s current catalog for your region rather than treating the announcement as a worldwide availability guarantee.

U-NEXT’s June 26, 2025 schedule is specifically for its service in Japan. It said 45 or more works were planned for the season; that figure refers to U-NEXT’s announced lineup, not the total number of Summer 2025 anime across all platforms. U-NEXT also cautioned that titles, schedules, and free-viewing periods could change without notice. Its dates and times are Japan-localized service details, not a global release calendar.
Both schedules are historical announcements. They help identify what was planned for Summer 2025, but they do not confirm current streaming availability. For the original listings, see Crunchyroll’s announcement and U-NEXT’s Japan schedule.
