ABC framed the episode around the disappearance of a lottery winner and the investigation into possible suspects. Its promotional question—“How did a winning lotto ticket for $30 million lead to murder?”—is a question the documentary explores, not proof that the lottery win by itself explains the crime.
What happened to Abraham Shakespeare?
Shakespeare won a $30 million Florida lottery prize in 2006, according to ABC. He disappeared in 2009. ABC’s 2025 report says his body was found the next year, buried beneath a concrete slab in Moore’s backyard, with two gunshot wounds to the chest.

In December 2012, a jury convicted Moore of first-degree murder. The Associated Press reported that the judge sentenced her to life in prison without parole, plus a mandatory additional 25 years for firearm use. That verdict is distinct from Moore’s position: she continues to maintain her innocence.
What Moore says in the episode
In ABC’s prison interview for the 2025 report, Moore said: “There was no reason for him to pass away over money.” This is Moore’s statement, not a finding by the jury or an independent determination of what happened.

At trial, the prosecutor argued that Moore took Shakespeare’s money and killed him. The defense argued that other people could have been responsible. Those were competing arguments presented in court; they should not be confused with the jury’s verdict or treated as independently established facts.
Who is interviewed?
ABC’s announcement named prosecutor Jay Pruner, Shakespeare’s second cousin Ashley McMillian, detectives David Clark and Greg Thomas, former undercover officer Mike Smith, and others among the episode’s interviewees. That is the announced roster; it does not guarantee that every named person appears in the finished broadcast.

What the available reporting establishes
ABC’s 2025 report says Moore had experienced failed appeals by that time, but that description does not establish her current appellate status. The episode announcement, catalog entry, ABC report and AP account republished by CBS provide the schedule, basic case timeline, verdict, sentence and competing trial positions. They do not establish which specific exhibits or appellate rulings the episode discusses.
