Is the series based on books?
Yes. FOX says the television series is based on L.R. Wright’s Edgar Award-winning nine-book Karl Alberg series. Netflix describes the books as the Alberg and Cassandra series. The novels are a natural next step if you want more of the characters, but the available information does not establish a one-to-one match between each television episode and a particular book.
FOX’s December 14, 2023 series-order announcement confirms the nine-book source series. That number refers to Wright’s novels, not the show’s season-one episode count.

Where can you watch season one?
As of September 29, 2026, Netflix Tudum said the series was streaming on Netflix. Hulu’s listing, accessed October 8, 2026, showed two seasons and 18 episodes; Hulu’s page does not make that total a season-one count. Disney+ also displays both seasons and episode titles on its series listing.
