They weigh five things: demonstrated feats, especially in the final arc; versatility and counters; the opponents a character faces; whether a decisive fight reaches a conclusion; and the version and conditions being compared. Team support, temporary transformations and borrowed power can alter a result, so a win or loss does not automatically settle who is stronger in every matchup.

The manga’s endgame is the focus. The official anime synopsis establishes broad story context, including the Dark Triad conflict, but it does not supply a final-manga power chart. VIZ’s synopsis for Volume 37 supports the Asta–Yuno–Lucius framing, but is not a complete account of the manga’s ending.
Who are the strongest characters in Black Clover, ranked?
1. Asta
Asta earns the top spot for the combination of endgame relevance and an unusually powerful counter: Anti-Magic. The official anime synopsis says it can nullify magic, making it fundamentally different from simply having a larger store of magical power. That advantage can change what is possible in a particular fight, but it does not prove that Asta automatically defeats every opponent or that his ability settles every matchup.

VIZ’s official series description calls Asta a boy who cannot use magic and says his five-leaf grimoire gives him Anti-Magic. In Volume 37’s synopsis, he is one of the two characters standing against Lucius’s escalating attack. Those facts make him a leading endgame contender; his placement over Yuno is an editorial call, not an official distinction.
2. Yuno
Yuno belongs in the same endgame conversation as Asta. VIZ’s Volume 37 synopsis names them together as the opposition to Lucius, which is strong support for treating Yuno as a top contender rather than ranking him far below the final antagonist or Asta. The cited official material does not establish that he is definitively weaker than Asta, however. Their relative order depends on how one weighs Asta’s matchup-changing Anti-Magic against Yuno’s own demonstrated performance across the manga.

3. Lucius Zogratis
Lucius is the ranking’s defining endgame benchmark. VIZ describes his attack on the Clover Kingdom escalating as he prepares a catastrophic spell to take over the world, with Asta and Yuno standing in his way. That makes him central to any late-series comparison, but the synopsis alone does not settle a complete three-way ranking or every possible matchup. His position here reflects his role as the final threat the two leading contenders must oppose.
4. Julius Novachrono
Julius’s official anime profile identifies Time as his attribute and describes him as “a great mage who stands at the top of all of the Magic Knights.” That is meaningful evidence of his standing in the anime-era story, but it is not a ranking against the manga’s final-arc characters. Placing him below the endgame trio is therefore a scope-based editorial judgment, not a claim that the profile gives a direct comparison.

The Dark Triad are major threats in the Spade Kingdom conflict. The official anime synopsis describes the rulers as possessing the powers of devils from the underworld, and says their invasion leads to the abduction of captains Yami and Vangeance. This establishes the scale of their role in that arc, but does not provide enough evidence to rank the three members precisely against one another—or to treat the group as a single fighter with one exact position.
6. Yami Sukehiro and William Vangeance
Yami and Vangeance matter to the ranking because they are among the captains abducted in the Dark Triad’s invasion, according to the official anime synopsis. That fact establishes their place in a major conflict, not a precise individual power order. Their standing relative to the Dark Triad or the endgame trio cannot be derived from that synopsis alone, so this entry is a contextual tier rather than a definitive head-to-head verdict.

Why the top three are difficult to order
Raw magical output is not the only useful measure in Black Clover. Asta’s Anti-Magic directly affects how magic-based opponents can fight, while the official endgame synopsis groups Asta and Yuno as the ones opposing Lucius. Those are different kinds of evidence: one identifies a special counter, and the other establishes narrative and conflict relevance. Neither source gives an official score, a complete record of the final battles, or a definitive order between Asta and Yuno.
Fight conditions also matter. A victory achieved with allies, a temporary form or borrowed power cannot be read as a clean measure of what either character would do alone under different conditions. Interrupted fights are less conclusive than completed ones. For those reasons, the top three are best read as an endgame tier with an argued ordering—not as a mathematical power scale.

Anime and manga rankings are not interchangeable
The official anime synopsis describes the Dark Triad conflict and Anti-Magic’s nullifying effect; Julius’s official profile gives his Time attribute and anime-era standing. Those sources do not provide the manga’s final-arc comparisons. The manga-inclusive scope is important: VIZ’s Volume 37 description specifically identifies Lucius’s growing attack and Asta and Yuno’s opposition. Readers following only the anime should not treat this endgame ranking as a description of the anime’s current adaptation point.
