The clearest documented stories belong to Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara: one mask carried a family and character history through changing looks, while another became a visual expression of a team’s unity.
How to judge a wrestling mask
A mask can be memorable for more than its colors. For this retrospective, the useful questions are whether a design is visually distinctive and recognizable, whether it connects to a memorable moment from 2010–2019, and whether it fits the wrestler’s persona. These are editorial criteria, not a poll or a claim about fan consensus.
WWE’s 2013 feature on masked wrestlers used criteria including in-ring ability, contribution, association between performer and mask, and visual appeal. That feature offers a useful reminder that the mask’s meaning is tied to its wearer, but it does not rank designs from the 2010s.
Rey Mysterio’s two-falcon design: a signature with a story
Rey Mysterio’s mask is the strongest documented design case here because he explained its origin and symbolism himself. In an Esquire Middle East interview published October 13, 2018, he said his uncle, Rey Mysterio Sr., designed the mask he adopted. Rey chose the version with two falcon heads, saying the falcon suited his aerial wrestling style. He also described changing colors and materials to tell his own story.

WWE’s biography also records the return as a career milestone. The look is notable not because a source establishes it as the decade’s most popular mask, but because it links a recognizable design to a major, clearly dated appearance.

One design language, many treatments
Mediotiempo’s gallery documents a range of Mysterio masks and costumes across his career, including superhero-inspired treatments, a Día de Muertos influence, and a 2015 Terminator-inspired outfit. Those examples show the versatility of his visual identity, but the gallery is not a decade-only catalog. Its captions do not establish that every pictured look belongs to 2010–2019 or identify every appearance as an in-ring mask. The safest decade-specific examples are the explicitly dated 2015 Terminator fusion and 2018 Royal Rumble return.
Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio’s split mask: unity made visible
Sin Cara’s split-mask concept stands out for a different reason: it was collaborative rather than a single wrestler’s evolving signature. In a WWE Magazine interview published December 20, 2012, Sin Cara said he and Mysterio came up with the design to show their unity as a team. The divided image gave that partnership a simple visual shorthand.

The same interview described a contrast that emerged in Sin Cara’s rivalry with Hunico. Sin Cara recalled that Hunico’s gear initially matched his, then became a black version that felt like a dark reflection. That supports reading the matching and contrasting gear as part of the rivalry’s visual storytelling; it does not establish either version as a decade-long signature or a top-ranked design.

A title promising ten of the decade’s best masks would imply ten individually checked designs and some defensible basis for comparing them. The available sources establish a small number of specific examples, not ten. They also provide no survey, published ranking, or comparable popularity data. Expanding the list by guessing at other performers’ looks would make the article less reliable, not more complete.

So the strongest conclusion is narrower: Mysterio’s two-falcon mask is unusually well documented as a design with family roots and personal meaning, while the Mysterio–Sin Cara split mask is a clear example of gear used to communicate a team relationship.
