Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara ranks second at £5 million to £9 million. These are expert estimates, not official Royal Collection appraisals or confirmed sale prices, and the ranking covers five wedding tiaras rather than every tiara associated with the Royal Family.
How the ranking and estimates should be read
The order below follows a 2026 Marie Claire feature, which presents five royal wedding tiaras and estimates attributed to Justin Daughters, managing director and antique-jewelry expert at Berganza. It is a published expert ranking, not a definitive valuation of the full royal collection. The ranges for ranks three through five overlap, so their order is the feature’s ranking rather than a mathematically certain result across every possible valuation.
A separate 2021 study by Money.co.uk used Steven Stone diamond experts to estimate values for three recently worn royal wedding tiaras. It placed the Greville at £10 million, the Fringe at £5 million and the Diamond Bandeau at £2 million. Those figures were estimates, not official appraisals or actual insurance premiums; Money.co.uk separately considered insurance costs. The study’s method is described by Steven Stone and in Money.co.uk’s report.

Why a tiara’s value is more than its diamonds
Gemstones matter, but they do not explain the estimates on their own. Daughters says that “the primary factors determining the gem’s value are not limited to the diamonds and precious stones composing the tiara.” His other cited considerations include rarity, workmanship and the connection to the royal occasion for which a piece was worn. Provenance and the history of ownership can distinguish two objects with comparable materials.
Estimates also depend on what is being valued and why. A market estimate, an insurance valuation and a documented historical cost are different kinds of figures; they should not be treated as interchangeable. The Royal Household explains that the King holds the Crown Jewels and most Royal Collection art treasures as Sovereign on behalf of the nation and cannot sell them. That custody arrangement does not provide an official current market appraisal for each object.
