Spoilers for all 10 episodes of Season 3. Season 3 ends with UBA’s future unsettled: Alex rejects Paul Marks’ acquisition path and proposes a merger with NBN, while Bradley and her brother Hal go to the FBI over concealed January 6 footage. Cory remains caught in the ownership fight and faces an investigation of his own. Season 4 has already premiered, so this is a refresher for viewers catching up on the released season.
What Season 3 is really about
Season 3’s central conflict is a fight over who will control financially troubled UBA—and what that control will mean for the newsroom. Cory is trying to preserve the network and his authority. Paul Marks, a wealthy technology entrepreneur, offers UBA a financial lifeline through his company, Hyperion. But the proposed deal puts the newsroom’s independence, and the characters’ loyalties, under pressure.
The season is not just a romance layered over a corporate takeover. Alex’s relationship with Paul becomes entangled with UBA’s ownership struggle. Bradley’s work, her relationship with Laura, her family history, and the hidden January 6 footage create a separate chain of risks. Stella’s past with Paul complicates her choices inside the company, while Cory’s maneuvering and attachment to Bradley leave him exposed. The personal and professional conflicts keep colliding because the people shaping UBA’s future are also implicated in its private crises.
How the story develops
The ten episodes are “The Kármán Line,” “Ghost in the Machine,” “White Noise,” “The Green Light,” “Love Island,” “The Stanford Student,” “Strict Scrutiny,” “DNF,” “Update Your Priors,” and “The Overview Effect.” Together, they move from UBA’s financial proposal and a newsroom cyberattack toward the Hyperion deal, the histories and loyalties that complicate it, Bradley’s investigation, and a final vote.

Alex is drawn toward Paul’s plans as she seeks influence over the company’s direction. As she comes to understand the risks in his acquisition strategy, she turns away from that route. Bradley, meanwhile, is pulled between her reporting and the consequences of what she and Hal concealed about January 6. These storylines converge as the future of UBA becomes harder to separate from the people who work there.
Season 3 finale: what happens in “The Overview Effect”
The Hyperion-UBA deal comes to a vote, but the finale does not lay out the company’s new future in detail. Alex decides to challenge Paul’s acquisition route and proposes a merger between UBA and NBN. She says goodbye to Bradley, whose immediate crisis is the concealed evidence connected to January 6.

Bradley and Hal decide to go to the FBI over their role in covering up the footage. Cory, still central to the ownership struggle, faces an investigation sparked by photographs that falsely suggest inappropriate relationships with employees. The episode ends with major consequences in motion rather than a neat resolution for the network or its newsroom.
Director and executive producer Mimi Leder described Alex’s choice as an assertion of her power after she learned who Paul was. In a TV Insider interview, Leder also treated Bradley’s future in journalism as an open question for the story ahead; that was her interpretation at the time, not a definitive account of what later seasons would show.

Where Season 4 picks up
Apple says Season 4 begins in spring 2024, nearly two years after Season 3, with the UBA-NBN merger complete. The newsroom is working through its new responsibilities amid questions of trust, hidden motives, deepfakes, conspiracy theories, and corporate cover-ups. Season 4 premiered globally on September 17, 2025, with weekly episodes through November 19, 2025.
That time jump answers the most important continuity question from the finale: Alex’s proposed merger has happened. The fictional merger is part of the show’s story; it is not a real-world corporate merger or reporting event. As of October 4, 2026, Season 4 is available, and Apple has announced that Season 5 will be the final season, planned for 2027.
