Nicole Scherzinger has not been confirmed as a Season 14 contestant. The “possible twist” was a pre-premiere tease from early January 2026, built on a welcoming remark from judge Rita Ora. The season has since finished, and the finale coverage reviewed for this article names the finalists and winner without placing Scherzinger among them.
The title promises four more takeaways from the set. The accessible text of the set-visit coverage does not include a full transcript, so the points below are limited to what named reports can verify.
What the set preview established
Fox News Video posted “FOX’s ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 set visit & preview” on January 6, 2026, one day before the premiere. The 1:52 listing features judges Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, and Rita Ora, plus host Nick Cannon, and says the season premieres January 7. Its accessible description does not provide a transcript, so nothing said on camera beyond those points is confirmed here.
The Scherzinger tease, read closely
MEAWW’s January 6, 2026 preview, headlined as “4 key takeaways” as the season readied for its January premiere, reports that Scherzinger was a judge through the first ten seasons before Ora joined the panel, and describes ongoing fan calls for her return. It quotes Ora:

“She is always welcome. She’s just been doing bigger and better things, so we’ve been waiting. She’s going to be under this mask at one point. It has to happen.”
MEAWW attributes the quote to a Collider special report. The accessible MEAWW text does not say where or in what setting Ora spoke, and it does not confirm her role at that moment, so the quote should be read as reported second-hand.

How the Insider twist worked
Parade reported on December 10, 2025 that the new America’s Insider role let viewers learn Cantrall was competing while the panel remained unaware of which mask she wore. Parade also noted that Cantrall and Ora previously played daughter and mother in Descendants: The Rise of Red, a connection that made Ora’s presence on the panel a natural storyline point for the twist.
Ashlee Simpson’s account of competing
In an April 1, 2026 Parade interview, Simpson said she and her husband, Evan Ross, were approached separately, competed separately, and were kept apart on set. She described contestants wearing masks, black clothing, gloves, and a sweatshirt reading “Don’t talk to me.” These are interview details from a contestant’s account, not material shown in the January set-visit coverage.

How to check a casting tease before repeating it
- Identify the source type. A set-visit listing, a quoted remark, and a confirmed casting are three different kinds of evidence, and the Season 14 tease rests on the first two.
- Check the date. Pre-premiere coverage from January 2026 predates the season’s outcome and cannot settle who competed.
- Look for a named role. Ora’s remark names no season, mask, or booking; a contestant claim should say which costume the person wore.
- Compare with finale coverage. Finalists and winners are the quickest test of whether a rumored name appeared at all.
