Spoilers for Season 12, Episode 3. The Group A Finals featured Ship, Woodpecker, and Buffalo. Woodpecker was unmasked as actress Marsai Martin, Ship was revealed as singer-songwriter Paula Cole, and Buffalo advanced after the double elimination. Who was unmasked in the Group A Finals?
The episode, identified as “Group A Finals: Soundtrack of My Life,” ended with two reveals: Woodpecker was Marsai Martin, and Ship was Paula Cole. Buffalo remained in the competition and advanced. The available account does not establish the voting or the precise elimination sequence.
Woodpecker was Marsai Martin
Actress Marsai Martin was revealed as Woodpecker.
Ship was Paula Cole
Singer-songwriter Paula Cole was behind Ship. Her reveal set up the episode’s most personal moment: a performance of the song most closely associated with her career.
What song did Ship sing?
Cole performed “I Don’t Want to Wait,” her signature song associated with Dawson’s Creek. She described it as “the song of my life.” Rather than treating it simply as a familiar hit, Cole explained that the song carried a family story.

The song’s connection to her grandfather
Cole said she wrote the song for her grandfather, who returned from World War II after fighting in the Battle of Okinawa and lived with PTSD. She described how his experience affected the family and connected the song’s meaning to generational trauma and her desire to do better in her own life:

What else did Cole say about her song choices?
Cole discussed other choices from her time on the show, but they should not be mistaken for performances in this episode. She said “Because the Night” was her choice, an executive producer suggested “Pompeii,” and a Footloose soundtrack theme constrained “Almost Paradise.” Those comments provide context about her run, not a confirmed list of songs performed in the Group A Finals.
