The film is a narrative feature, not a documentary. Its marketing says it is based on or inspired by true events, but the official material does not name the real case it draws on.
What the official trailer sets up
The director’s portfolio page labels the video “Theatrical Trailer – THE MAN IN THE WHITE VAN, directed by Warren Skeels (2024).” The description places the story in 1975 Florida, describes violent disappearances, and says Annie, played by Wolfe, is targeted by a white van. The page does not state the trailer’s runtime or upload date, so the trailer itself should be checked directly on the Skeels Films portfolio page.
The trailer is the only official marketing piece that uses the 1975 setting consistently. Apple TV’s synopsis describes the town as quaint and gives the setting as 1974, so readers comparing synopses will see two different years (see the section on discrepancies below).
Cast and credits
The credits below come from the director’s page, the STARZ listing and the Apple TV listing. Where a source does not give a role, the table says so.

What “based on true events” does and does not establish
The official marketing describes the film as based on or inspired by true events. The sources reviewed do not identify which real-life case, if any, the screenplay follows, and they do not show how closely the story tracks documented events. Readers should not assume a specific case, and this article does not name one.
For a documentary audience, the practical point is that this is a scripted thriller with a fictional narrative shape. Viewers looking for archival material, interviews or a factual reconstruction should look elsewhere.

Discrepancies to keep in mind
- Setting year: the director’s page says 1975, while Apple TV’s synopsis says 1974. The film’s own release year, 2024, is consistent across listings.
- Genre: STARZ uses thriller/suspense and Apple TV adds horror. Neither the producer nor the director’s page uses the phrase “true crime,” so that label is a viewer’s shorthand rather than the film’s official classification.
