“The Letterboxd store opens soon” referred to Letterboxd Video Store, a digital film-rental service—not a shop for shirts or other merchandise. Letterboxd says the Video Store launched on December 10, 2025, and describes it as a rental platform within Letterboxd, rather than a subscription service.
What the Letterboxd Video Store is
Letterboxd’s Video Store explainer calls it “a film rental platform inside Letterboxd.” Viewers rent individual films digitally; the service is not presented as an all-you-can-watch subscription. The announcement that it would open soon is therefore historical: Letterboxd’s launch-era announcement placed the launch on December 10, 2025.

How the film shelves work
Rather than presenting only a conventional catalog, the Video Store organizes films into curated shelves. Letterboxd says these can spotlight festival titles that have not yet found distribution, films that have been on users’ watchlists for a long time, restorations and rediscoveries, and selections available for a limited time. Shelves and titles are added regularly, so the selection can change.
Where to find and watch rentals
Letterboxd describes viewing through a browser, its app, and TV options on the Video Store site. On iPhone and iPad, Letterboxd’s help page for finding rentals says the Video Store tab is on the home screen; rentals can also be found from the profile area. Available viewing routes may depend on the device and current service support.

Check a film’s current availability before planning to watch
There is no single price or availability answer that applies to every film and location. Rental prices and title availability vary by film and territory, and some films may leave after a limited time. Letterboxd’s catalog update guidance confirms that films and shelves are added regularly. Check the live listing for the film you want to see for its current rental details and whether it is available where you are.
The reviewed official material does not establish a complete list of supported countries, a current total catalog size, or universal rental prices. Those details should not be assumed from the launch announcement or from another film’s listing.

It is separate from Letterboxd merchandise
Letterboxd has also operated a merchandise shop, with official stories documenting apparel and accessories such as shirts and hats. That is a different offer from the Video Store: merchandise is physical fandom gear, while Video Store rentals provide digital access to films. Past merchandise drops do not establish what is currently in stock.
The original “opens soon” framing appeared in The Verge’s archive before the service launched. For the current service, its rental model, shelves, and changing availability, Letterboxd’s own explainer and live listings are the more useful references.
