“LeBron song” can mean two different TikTok edit waves: the “You Are My Sunshine” meme popularized in January 2024 and a short R&B track by creator OkaySpade that spread in March 2025. Both turned James into the subject of music-backed tributes and jokes, but they are separate formats. The available reporting documents past virality, not whether the trend is taking over TikTok now.
How did the LeBron James TikTok song trend start?
There was no single starting point for every LeBron song edit. The phrase refers most notably to two waves that used different audio and humor.
The “You Are My Sunshine” edits: late 2023 and January 2024
Know Your Meme traces examples of LeBron edits set to “You Are My Sunshine” to late 2023, with the format popularized on TikTok in January 2024. Creators paired the familiar song with James footage and memes, using lavish praise that could read as either an affectionate tribute or a joke about fans who praise him excessively. The format’s humor often came from that over-the-top devotion, rather than from a new song about him. Know Your Meme’s history of the edits notes that one January 20, 2024 example had more than 794,000 views within two months; that is a dated count for one edit, not a current or aggregate trend total.
OkaySpade’s “LeBron Song”: March 2025
A distinct wave began when TikTok creator Vincent Jordan, known as OkaySpade, posted a short R&B track repeating “LeBron, LeBron, LeBron James.” Front Office Sports reported that he posted it on March 4, 2025, as a tribute after James became the first NBA player to pass 50,000 career points. The original was 35 seconds long, and its popularity prompted fan edits and other LeBron-themed songs, including parodies of familiar songs. Front Office Sports’ account of OkaySpade and the song reported about 6.7 million views for the original video by March 31, 2025. That figure belongs to one video at that date; it does not measure all edits or establish current reach.

What does the “You Are My Sunshine” LeBron meme mean?
The joke is the contrast between a sweet, earnest-sounding song and extravagant praise of a basketball star. Depending on the edit, that praise can be sincere fandom, playful celebration, or ironic exaggeration aimed at the idea of “glazing”—overpraising someone. Know Your Meme describes the format as mocking overly devoted fans, but the tone of an individual post depends on its footage, caption, and creator.
The 2025 R&B track is different: its repeated lyric names James directly, making the audio itself a LeBron song rather than a familiar song repurposed for a meme. The two waves can overlap in spirit—both celebrate or tease intense fandom—but they should not be mistaken for one continuous audio trend.

How did LeBron James react?
In an April 1, 2025 report, Sports Illustrated said James had heard about the songs and quoted him saying his youngest son Bryce had shown him one the previous day: “My youngest son Bryce actually showed me one yesterday… we got a good laugh out of it. There’s quite a few out there,” Sports Illustrated’s report on James’s reaction also noted that he had seen a Baylor choir rendition. His comment describes his reaction to videos he encountered; it does not establish how widely the songs were being used across TikTok.

The documented figures show that individual edits and OkaySpade’s original video attracted substantial attention in 2024 and 2025. They do not establish a platform-wide ranking, total reach for all LeBron song edits, or current sound usage in October 2026. It is therefore accurate to call these historically viral TikTok formats, but the claim that they are taking over TikTok now is not verified by the available reporting.
