Sky will not commission a third season of The Lazarus Project. The broadcaster confirmed the decision in March 2024, but its public statement did not explain why the series was canceled.
Why was The Lazarus Project canceled?
Sky confirmed it would not commission another season in a statement reported by Radio Times on 25 March 2024. The statement praised the show and thanked the people who made it, but gave no reason for ending it. Sky’s current series page also says the programme will not return for Series 3.
Sky has not publicly attributed the decision to ratings, costs, or declining viewership. A later ComingSoon report, published 28 July 2025, likewise said no official reason had been disclosed. Without a stated rationale, claims about what drove the cancellation would be speculation.
“The Lazarus Project has brought audiences jaw-dropping action and time-bending storylines across two seasons, and we are incredibly proud of this BAFTA-winning series. Whilst we won’t be commissioning another season, we would like to thank the incredible team who made this show possible.”

That was the statement from a Sky spokesperson, as quoted by Radio Times. It confirms the decision and Sky’s praise for the series, not the reason behind it.
Will there be a season 3?
No. Sky has said it will not commission a third season, so there is no Series 3 transmission date to anticipate. The show ran for two series: Sky described Series 1 as eight 60-minute episodes when announcing its June 2022 launch, and called Series 2 an eight-part instalment ahead of its 15 November 2023 transmission date. The dates and episode details come from Sky’s Series 2 announcement of 24 October 2023.

What is The Lazarus Project about?
Sky describes George as a man who relives time after witnessing the end of the world. In Series 2, he is back in a time loop with the Lazarus team as they race to prevent humanity’s extinction; he is also trying to regain the trust of colleagues after betraying the organisation. The premise and series synopsis appear on Sky’s programme page.
The series’ time-bending plot is paired with character drama, a balance creator and writer Joe Barton discussed in a 2023 Guardian interview. Barton called it “the most structurally complex story I’ve ever tried to do” and said he had tried to “Trojan horse” character drama into a larger genre. He also said he initially assumed Series 1 would be “another one-and-done” and had not worried too much about how it ended. That describes his expectations while writing the first series; it is not an explanation for Sky’s later decision.

Does the series end on a cliffhanger?
Radio Times described the Series 2 ending as a cliffhanger. That is the outlet’s characterization, not wording from Sky. With no third season commissioned, viewers should be aware that the story may leave questions unresolved rather than lead into a continuation.
Where can you watch The Lazarus Project?
Sky’s current UK programme page lists both series on Sky Max and directs customers to Sky Go. Availability can change, and this listing does not establish where the show is available outside the UK or whether it will remain on the service later.
