How to interpret box-office rankings
A worldwide gross combines reported ticket sales across markets. It is not the amount a studio keeps: theaters retain part of ticket revenue, and production budgets do not include every marketing or distribution cost. These figures therefore rank reported grosses, not profitability.
The Numbers also lists domestic grosses separately: $424,668,047 for Catching Fire, $337,135,885 for Mockingjay — Part 1, $408,010,692 for The Hunger Games, $281,723,902 for Mockingjay — Part 2, and $166,350,594 for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Domestic totals describe a different geography and should not be substituted for the worldwide figures in the ranking. Box Office Mojo’s franchise listing gives the same domestic lifetime grosses and ordering, but its displayed ranking is domestic, not a worldwide cross-check.
Totals can vary between box-office databases as they update or record re-releases and market reporting differently. The table uses one source consistently rather than mixing figures with different update histories. It also reflects nominal dollars, so it does not adjust for changes in ticket prices or compare admissions.

Why Sunrise on the Reaping is not included
The Numbers lists The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping for release on November 18, 2026, with a gross of zero. As of October 8, 2026, that date is in the future, so the film is not part of a ranking of released movies.
