In the main Earth-616 comics, Steve Rogers’s clearest parent-child relationship is with Ian Rogers, whom he adopts and raises. Sarah, James, and Ellie Rogers belong to separate alternate or event-world stories—not to one shared list of Steve’s present-day Earth-616 children.
Does Captain America have kids in the comics?
Yes, but the answer depends on which story and continuity you mean. Ian Rogers is Steve’s adopted son in Earth-616. Sarah Rogers, James Rogers, and Ellie Rogers are presented as Steve’s children in other settings. A character appearing in a Marvel comic does not automatically make that character’s family history part of Earth-616.
| Character | Story setting | Relationship to Steve | Role or outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ian Rogers | Earth-616; Dimension Z is central to his origin | Adopted son | Later returns as Nomad |
| Sarah Rogers | What If…? alternate story | Daughter of Steve and Rogue, called Carol in that version | Becomes Crusader |
| James Rogers | Next Avengers continuity, designated Earth-10943 in the comics report | Son of Steve and Black Widow | Part of a next-generation Avengers team |
| Ellie Rogers | Hail Hydra, in the Secret Wars Battleworld setting | Daughter of Steve and Sharon Carter | Joins the resistance and dies after an escape attempt |
Who is Ian Rogers?
Ian is the adopted son most closely connected to Steve’s mainline comics history. In the Dimension Z story, Arnim Zola creates a baby; Steve rescues him and raises him as his son. They spend eleven years there before Zola’s forces recapture Ian. The account of those events comes from Shawn Lealos’s December 15, 2025, overview for ComicBook.com.
Ian’s parentage and his relationship with Steve are different questions: he is not Steve’s biological child, but Steve raises him as family. Sharon Carter later takes a maternal role in Ian’s life. Marvel’s official Captain America: Cold War reading list confirms Ian’s later return as “Ian Rogers, AKA Nomad,” anchoring that character in contemporary Captain America publishing.

Who are Sarah, James, and Ellie Rogers?
Sarah Rogers: Steve and Rogue’s daughter in a What If…? story
Sarah belongs to an alternate-reality story connected to heroes stranded after the original Secret Wars. She is described as the daughter of Steve and Rogue—called Carol in that version—and takes the name Crusader as part of the Battleworld Avengers. The story account does not explain how the two have a child; claims about the mechanics would go beyond what is established.
James Rogers: Steve and Black Widow’s son in Next Avengers
James is from the Next Avengers animated continuity, which imagines the children of Avengers after their parents’ deaths. Iron Man and Vision raise and train the younger heroes. The comics report identifies this setting as Earth-10943 and notes that the team later crosses into the Avengers (2010) comic run.
That comic appearance should not be mistaken for proof that James’s animated family history is standard Earth-616 biography. Marvel’s catalog entry for Avengers (2010) #1 dates the issue to May 19, 2010 and describes Kang’s threat to the timestream; its synopsis does not establish James’s parentage.
Ellie Rogers: Steve and Sharon’s daughter on Battleworld
Ellie appears in the Hail Hydra tie-in to Secret Wars, in its Doom-ruled Battleworld setting. The comics report describes her as Steve and Sharon Carter’s daughter and a member of the resistance. She attempts to escape with Ian but dies from her injuries. This is an event-world story, not evidence that Ellie is a living child in present-day Earth-616.

Is James Rogers canon?
James is a Marvel character with a published story and a comics appearance, but “canon” needs a continuity attached to it. His Steve-and-Black-Widow family history belongs to Next Avengers, identified in the comics report as Earth-10943. The team’s later appearance in a comic does not, by itself, move that history into Earth-616.
The same distinction resolves apparent contradictions among Steve’s children: identify the universe or event first, then ask whether the relationship is biological or adoptive. Marvel’s official multiverse guide is also a reminder that the Captain America name has variants across realities; another hero’s child should not be attributed to Steve. Its indexed description identifies Danielle Cage as the child of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, not Steve Rogers.
