He returned a few days later and told Joan he had no intention of staying away. Joan supported his departure, though the episode left her unsure whether he would come back.
Why did Chock leave?
During a group date featuring Joan, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Chippendales dancers in a performance connected with Stand Up to Cancer, Chock received the date’s rose. The following day, he learned that his mother had died. He told the other men he needed to leave to take care of matters at home, then spoke with Joan before her date with Jordan. ABC7/WABC’s recap and 6abc’s recap describe the departure.
How did Joan respond?
Joan embraced Chock and acknowledged the pain of losing a partner, drawing on her own experience after her husband’s death. She encouraged Chock to go be with his family, while also telling him she wanted him to continue the process for himself. After he left, the episode showed her uncertain about whether he would return.
Did Chock come back?
Yes. Chock returned later in the episode, a few days after leaving. ABC7/WABC’s recap transcribed him telling Joan, “I’ve been thinking about you so much!” and “There was no way I was not coming back!” He said he wanted to lower his defenses, adding, “I’ve had armor up my whole life and it’s time I let that down.” These are quotations as reported in the recap, not independently verified against an official transcript.
