That premise gives the series a clear source of tension; whether its slow-burn investigation and personal-trauma story make a satisfying watch will depend on your appetite for dark Nordic noir. Netflix released the limited series on April 15, 2025.
What is The Glass Dome about?
Criminologist Lejla Ness returns to her childhood home after the death of her adoptive mother. When a young girl named Alicia disappears, the case recalls Lejla’s own abduction as a child. Lejla joins the search while trying to make sense of memories and unanswered questions from her past.
The story unfolds in Granås, a fictional town in Dalarna, central Sweden. Netflix describes the village as caught between tradition and modernization, a social tension that sits alongside the crime plot. Granås is not presented as a real town.
The premise makes Lejla both investigator and someone personally entangled in the mystery. That overlap is the series’ central hook: the search for Alicia develops at the same time as Lejla confronts the history that makes the case so difficult for her.
How the six-episode mystery unfolds
The episode summaries suggest a compact investigation that steadily draws Lejla further into the case and her own past, without requiring a viewer to know the ending in advance.
- The disappearance opens old wounds for Lejla.
- She and Valter pursue an unofficial investigation that clashes with police chief Tomas.
- Gaps in Lejla’s memory emerge as a mine-expansion wastewater leak adds another problem to the town’s story.
- The investigation develops a profile of the kidnapper and raises suspicions about a date.
- Conflict within the investigation contributes to Lejla’s withdrawal.
- The final episode brings Lejla face to face with the truth of her abduction.
This outline indicates the kinds of threads the show brings together, not whether every turn lands or the finale resolves them convincingly. The official summaries establish the shape of the plot, but they do not settle questions of pacing or payoff.
Rank #2
Is it a slow-burn Nordic noir?
Netflix labels the series a dark, gritty, suspenseful Nordic noir and a slow burn. Those are useful signals about the intended mood, not independent judgments of the show’s quality. Expect a crime story that gives space to the town, its tensions, and Lejla’s personal history alongside the search for Alicia—not simply a procedural case detached from its lead character.
If you prefer mysteries driven by a brisk succession of clues, the emphasis on memory and trauma may be a drawback. If you like investigations that are closely bound to a protagonist’s past, the premise offers a reason to stay with the story as it develops. The available official materials do not establish how well the show balances those elements in practice.

Cast, creator, and source material
Camilla Läckberg created and wrote the original story. Lisa Farzaneh and Henrik Björn directed. Léonie Vincent plays Lejla Ness, with Johan Hedenberg as her adoptive father, Valter, and Johan Rheborg as police chief Tomas. The cast also includes Minoo Andacheh as Alicia, Farzad Farzaneh as Said, Gina-Lee Fahlén Ronander as Louise, Ia Langhammer as Jorun, and Seraphine Krystek as young Lejla.
The series is an original story, not an adaptation of one of Läckberg’s books. Her Fjällbacka crime novels are a separate option for readers looking for more Swedish crime fiction, but they are not source material or tie-ins for The Glass Dome.

Who should watch The Glass Dome?
- Consider it if a missing-child mystery linked to the investigator’s own past sounds compelling to you.
- It may suit you if you enjoy a small-town crime setting where local tensions share space with the investigation.
- Keep expectations measured if you need evidence of a strong finale, consistently fast pacing, or a particular level of critical acclaim: the official materials establish the premise and episode progression, not those verdicts.
- Check the tone first if dark crime stories or a protagonist revisiting childhood trauma are not what you want to watch.
