The Game Awards reported an estimated 154 million global livestreams for its December 12, 2024 broadcast, then the event’s largest audience on record. The organizer said that was 31% above 2023’s 118 million livestreams. The 2024 mark is no longer the all-time record: The Game Awards reported 171 million livestreams for its 2025 edition.
How many people watched The Game Awards 2024?
The most precise answer is that The Game Awards reported an estimated 154 million global livestreams. The show took place on December 12, 2024, and the organizer announced the figure on December 18. It called the result its “BIGGEST AUDIENCE EVER” at the time. The Game Awards’ announcement and its Rewind archive record the 2024 total.
That number counts livestreams, not confirmed distinct people. The announcement does not establish whether viewers who watched on more than one service were deduplicated, so “154 million people” or “154 million unique viewers” would overstate what the figure demonstrates.
How did the 2024 audience compare with 2023?
The Game Awards compared 2024’s estimated 154 million livestreams with 118 million for 2023 and described the increase as 31%. These are organizer-reported global livestream totals, not a comparison of independently audited unique viewers. The 2024 announcement also reported more than 112 million votes across participating platforms; votes are a separate measure of audience participation, not additional viewers.

Is 2024 still the most-watched Game Awards?
No. The Game Awards reported 171 million livestreams for its 2025 edition, surpassing the 2024 record. Its 2025 announcement described that result as an 11% increase over 2024 and called 154 million the previous record.
The 2025 announcement specifies that its figure covers full-broadcast livestreams and excludes associated clips and trailers. That scope is stated for the 2025 count; it should not be assumed to be an expressly documented definition of the 2024 number.

What the record does—and does not—tell you
The 2024 total is an estimate published by the event organizer, not an independently audited count presented in the announcement. The available figure does not provide a distinct-person total, platform-by-platform deduplication method, or average watch time. It therefore supports saying that the show generated an estimated 154 million global livestreams, but not how many individual people watched or how long they stayed.
The official 2024 broadcast listing describes a live show from Los Angeles featuring game announcements and musical performances. A separate NRG/Trailers Pulse survey offers limited context about audience interest: its December 2023 online study surveyed 1,000 U.S. PC and console players aged 13–45 who played at least one hour per week. It found that many surveyed viewers tuned in for new trailers or announcements, while some viewed the show’s length and additional content as downsides. Those survey responses neither count the 2024 broadcast audience nor establish what caused its reported growth. NRG’s report and insights

Livestream totals should not be compared directly with television audience estimates or unique-viewer figures unless the definitions and geographic scope match. The reported 2024 total is best understood on its own terms: an organizer-estimated global count of livestreams, later exceeded by the organizer’s reported 2025 result.
