“Terrible” is the comic framing, not a verdict established by the available evidence. Disney’s Snow White drew criticism around two different trailers: an August 2024 teaser and a fuller trailer released December 4. The online conversation was funny in places, but it also mixed visual complaints with debates about race, representation, politics and how a 1937 story should be retold. Those serious disputes deserve more than a punchline—and there is no verified, representative ranking of the internet’s funniest posts.
Two trailers, and two rounds of conversation
Disney first introduced the live-action film’s official teaser at its D23 fan event on August 9, 2024. Three days later, Rachel Zegler thanked supporters for driving it to 120 million views in 24 hours, according to Variety’s 2025 account. The Guardian also reported the figure. It was a view count cited by Zegler—not an independently audited tally of unique people, a measure of approval, or evidence that viewers liked the teaser.
The fuller official trailer arrived on December 4, 2024. Variety’s coverage highlighted Zegler’s singing, the seven dwarfs and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The film then opened theatrically on March 21, 2025, so the trailer debate is now part of the movie’s history rather than a preview of an upcoming release.
That distinction matters when talking about reactions: criticism of the early teaser and responses to the December trailer belong to separate moments. The coverage establishes broad strands of criticism, but it does not preserve a verified list of the funniest posts. So the fairest way to read the comic side of the story is to look at what the online arguments were circling—not to invent viral jokes or claim a single post won the internet.

What viewers were reacting to
The look of the trailer—and the remake itself
Some viewers criticized the trailer’s visuals. But reactions also landed on a larger target: Disney’s live-action remake strategy. The Atlantic’s discussion of criticism around the film places the response in that broader debate; it is context, not a count of trailer sentiment. The comic tension is familiar: a supposedly fresh take on a classic arrives carrying decades of audience memories and the expectation that a remake justify its existence.
That can make the marketing itself a target for jokes, but the available sources do not establish particular visual gags, quote specific viewer posts, or show that everyone disliked what they saw. Online criticism is evidence that people criticized the trailer—not a referendum on every viewer.

A beloved old story meets a more active Snow White
Zegler said the new version gave Snow White more agency, while also criticizing the original film’s romantic conventions. In comments recounted by Time, she described the 1937 prince as “a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! WEIRD!” That was her assessment of the original story, not dialogue from either trailer.
The friction practically writes its own comic setup: one side hears “modern heroine,” another hears “don’t rewrite the classic.” Yet reducing the exchange to a meme would miss the substance. The discussion was about what audiences want a remake to preserve, what it should change, and whether a romance presented in 1937 still plays the same way now.

Why the controversy went beyond trailer jokes
Zegler’s casting and racist backlash
Disney announced Zegler’s casting in 2021. The Los Angeles Times reported that consumers pledged boycotts, with objections focused on her Colombian heritage and the traditional description of Snow White as having skin “as white as snow.” Time explicitly described part of the response as racist backlash. It should not be recast as neutral disagreement among fans: criticism of a casting choice and racist attacks are not interchangeable.
The Times also reported Zegler’s explanation that the film’s Snow White received her name because she survived a snowstorm as a baby. In her words, “It fell back to another version of ‘Snow White,’ where she survived a snowstorm that occurred when she was a baby.” That is the production’s account of the name’s origin, not proof that it is the only valid reading of the fairy tale.

The seven dwarfs: story, representation and work
The debate over the dwarfs had more than one dimension. In January 2022, actor Peter Dinklage criticized the planned portrayal as repeating a story he considered backward. Time records him saying, “I was a little taken aback.” Disney said it would consult members of the dwarfism community and take a different approach.
Those questions did not disappear with the trailers. Time reports that the finished film used computer-generated little people and notes an actor’s concern that this approach removed meaningful opportunities for performers of his stature. That concern is distinct from Dinklage’s criticism of the fairy tale: one argument was about the source story, another about representation, and another about employment for little people. Treating all three as a visual punchline would flatten the debate.

Politics entered the promotion, too
Zegler added “and always remember, free palestine” to her August 2024 X thread about the teaser. Gadot had publicly expressed support for Israel. Their positions became part of the film’s promotional coverage and online discussion; the Guardian reported a boycott advocate’s call to boycott the film because of Gadot. The political conversation was larger than a trailer reaction and cannot be reduced to a joke about either actor or treated as a stand-in for every viewer’s opinion.

The comic premise works best when it points at the absurdity of online movie discourse: a remake can become a referendum on animation, nostalgia, casting, gender politics, representation and international conflict all at once. But the available reporting supports those categories of reaction, not a verified “top funniest posts” list, a sentiment percentage, or a claim that one joke was the internet’s favorite.
So the honest takeaway is less a parade of fabricated quips than a map of the debate. The trailers gave critics something to discuss; the remake’s history and the film’s choices gave the discussion much bigger stakes. The film’s theatrical release followed on March 21, 2025, as reported by Variety and Time.
