The 1994 live-action The Flintstones stars John Goodman as Fred Flintstone, Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble, Rosie O’Donnell as Betty, Kyle MacLachlan as Cliff Vandercave, Halle Berry as Miss Stone (also called Sharon Stone), and Elizabeth Taylor as Pearl Slaghoople. The film’s credits establish that ensemble; the career notes below are dated snapshots, not a complete account of what each performer is doing in October 2026.
The principal cast and their roles
Amblin describes the movie as a live-action feature based on Hanna-Barbera’s animated series, which ran from 1960 to 1966. Its central households are the Flintstones and the Rubbles, with Fred and Barney’s friendship at the heart of the story.

What the film adapted
The movie translated the animated sitcom’s prehistoric suburbia into a live-action feature. Amblin dates the original series to 1960–1966, a span also recorded by AFI. Producer Bruce Cohen described the adaptation as keeping the core ingredients—the two families, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, and Dino—while giving the humor a modern spin. Amblin quotes him: “It’s all here,” producer Bruce Cohen assured. “We took the basics—the two families [the Flintstones and the Rubbles], the kids (Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm), Dino, and what would be a typical Flintstones plot—then we embellished it, put a modern spin on the humor.”

Director Brian Levant described Fred and Barney’s bond this way: “These are two guys who have known each other since the first time they both went into the fifth grade. They’re next door neighbors, they work together, they love each other.” Both quotations appear on Amblin’s film page.
Where the cast are now: dated career context
A PEOPLE retrospective published around the film’s 30th anniversary, surfaced via Yahoo Entertainment, noted John Goodman’s later credits including The Righteous Gemstones and The Conners. It also reported that Rick Moranis stepped back from acting after the death of his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky. These are time-bounded details from that retrospective, not a current or exhaustive account of either actor’s career. The page is at Yahoo Entertainment.

The film and cast-credit sources establish the roles of Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O’Donnell, Kyle MacLachlan, Halle Berry, and Elizabeth Taylor, but do not provide a reliable, current career-by-career update for them. Taylor’s casting is documented, but the cited film sources do not establish biographical details such as her death date. A cast list is therefore firmer ground than an unsupported claim about each performer’s present-day activity.
Release details and runtime
AFI records a U.S. opening date of May 27, 1994, a PG rating, and a 92-minute runtime; it also lists Amblin Entertainment as the production company and Universal Pictures as distributor. Apple TV’s U.S. listing displays a runtime of 1 hour 30 minutes, a rounded storefront figure rather than AFI’s more exact 92-minute record. AFI independently dates the original television series’ run from September 30, 1960, to September 2, 1966.
