The Fantastic Four: First Steps has two credits scenes. The story-focused scene shows Doctor Doom beside Franklin Richards four years after the film’s main events; it signals Doom’s interest in the child but does not explain his motive. A final animated sequence is a playful tag, not another major plot reveal.
What happens in the Doom and Franklin scene?
After the main credits begin, the film jumps forward four years. Sue Storm is reading with Franklin, her and Reed’s son, in the Baxter Building. She leaves to get another book. When she returns, she senses something is wrong: Franklin is sitting beside a hooded figure in a dark green cloak, who holds a metal mask. The figure is Doctor Doom, but the scene does not show his face.
Some coverage calls this the mid-credits scene; other coverage describes it as the first post-credits scene. Either way, it is the earlier, plot-focused scene, rather than the final tag.
What does the scene confirm—and what remains unknown?
The scene establishes that Doom has reached Franklin and is interested in him. It does not explain why, reveal a plan, or show that Doom is about to kidnap him. The masked figure’s identity is presented as Doom, but the footage does not visibly establish whether Robert Downey Jr. is the actor beneath the hood.

Does the scene set up Secret Wars or Avengers: Doomsday?
Not explicitly. Some interpretations connect Franklin’s importance to comic-book Secret Wars or Battleworld storylines, but that is speculation about a possible MCU direction—not something this scene confirms. It does not establish Doom’s motive or confirm a particular role for Franklin in Avengers: Doomsday.
Director Matt Shakman has discussed the separate Thunderbolts* end-credit scene and its timing. GamesRadar reproduced his comment that the scene was created relatively late in his process and was not something he knew about while working on his script. That production-timing detail does not settle the continuity or explain Doom’s purpose here.

The last scene is an in-universe animated Fantastic Four sequence. ComicBook.com describes the team facing classic comic villains, while TechRadar characterizes the footage as the animated series’ title sequence and says it offers no major future-story hint. It plays as a lighthearted tag, not a second Doom reveal.
