The Evil Eye is the spirit Jiji encounters after moving into a new house—and, as VIZ’s synopsis for Dandadan, Vol. 7 makes clear, the threat becomes more than a haunting: the spirit possesses him. Seiko’s exorcism does not end the danger, and cold water lets the Evil Eye regain control and attack.
Who is the Evil Eye?
The anime’s official character profile identifies the Evil Eye as the spirit Jiji sees after moving into his new house. It also says the figure appears in Jiji’s dreams to torment him. Jiji is Momo’s childhood friend and first crush, and he seeks Seiko’s help after encountering a spirit in the house. See the official anime character profile.
How does the Evil Eye possess Jiji?
VIZ’s official synopsis for Dandadan, Vol. 7 describes the Evil Eye possessing Jiji as an unresolved threat following the group’s fight with the serpent god. The synopsis establishes possession, rather than only a spirit appearing in dreams, but does not give a complete account of how the possession began or explain the Evil Eye’s full origin.
Why doesn’t Seiko’s exorcism fix it?
According to the same VIZ synopsis, Seiko’s exorcism does not work. The possession therefore remains a danger after the attempt; the synopsis does not specify a broader reason that the exorcism fails.

Why does cold water trigger the Evil Eye?
VIZ says cold water makes the Evil Eye regain control and attack. That wording establishes cold water as a trigger in this situation, not that every exposure produces an identical or permanent change.
What the official sources do—and don’t—explain
The official sources establish the house encounter, Jiji’s tormenting dreams, possession, the failed exorcism, and cold water’s role in the Evil Eye regaining control. They do not, in the cited material, provide the Evil Eye’s complete origin, detail its relationship to the Kito family, or define the full limits and later development of its abilities. Those details should not be treated as confirmed by these synopses.

Creator Yukinobu Tatsu has said that he researches folklore and incorporates elements he finds interesting or useful. He has also observed that yokai can be understood as victims of the social circumstances of their eras. These remarks offer general context for the manga’s treatment of supernatural beings; Tatsu does not identify them as a specific explanation of the Evil Eye. Read the MANGA Plus creator interview.
