According to TheWrap’s November 13, 2025 report on her November 12 episode, Kelly said a person close to the Epstein case had told her that Epstein was not a pedophile. She described him as being into the “barely legal type” and contrasted a 15-year-old with a five-year-old. In one exchange TheWrap quoted her saying: “There’s a difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old, you know?”

These are Kelly’s assertions as reported, not a clinical or legal finding. In clinical usage, pedophilia refers to sexual attraction to prepubescent children, and age thresholds in criminal law differ by jurisdiction. Kelly’s remarks turned on which label fits Epstein, and that is the point Johnson took issue with.
How The Daily Show responded
The official Daily Show video listing, published November 13, 2025, is titled “Epstein-Trump Saga Gets 20K Pages Longer & Megyn Kelly Splits Hairs on Pedophilia.” Its description says Johnson discussed new Epstein emails and conservative pundits’ attempts to downplay the scandal.

Johnson’s “diet pedophilia” line
TheWrap reported that Johnson satirized Kelly’s framing with the phrase “diet pedophilia.” He then said: “Ma’am, everyone knows there is a big difference between a 15-year-old and a five-year-old. But everyone also knows there is never a good reason to be talking about that difference.” The joke targets the act of drawing the distinction at all, not the age gap itself.
Troy Iwata’s grammar joke
TheWrap also reported that correspondent Troy Iwata later joked about the grammar in Epstein’s emails, within the same opening segment. The report does not describe the joke in detail, so this article does not characterise it beyond that.
