In a May 2025 segment hosted by Jordan Klepper, The Daily Show turns Donald Trump’s reported remarks at a defense-contractor roundtable into a joke about a speech that wanders from military drones to lumberjacks, Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg’s bicycle commute. Klepper calls it a “jet lag weave”—his comic label for the detours—and says Trump never gets back to drones.
What happens in the segment?
A May 16, 2025, recap describes Klepper responding to Trump’s remarks during a roundtable with defense contractors on his Middle East tour. According to that secondary account, Trump starts by discussing military drones, then moves among lumberjacks, Joe Biden and former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg’s bicycle commute. Klepper’s point is the contrast between the opening subject and the speech’s reported detours: the remarks do not return to drones, the recap says. Creative Collaboration’s May 16, 2025 recap summarizes the sequence; it is not a transcript of the full speech.

What does “jet lag weave” mean here?
Klepper uses “weave” as a punchline for this particular reported sequence: a topic that branches into seemingly unrelated subjects. “Jet lag” adds a travel-related comic explanation, but the phrase is Klepper’s characterization, not a clinical assessment or an objective measure of the speech. The joke works by setting up the original topic—drones—and emphasizing that, in the recap’s account, Trump does not circle back to it.
What is verified—and what is part of the joke?
The available accounts identify the segment as a May 16, 2025, Daily Show item hosted by Klepper and describe the roundtable and the topics in the reported sequence. They do not provide an official full transcript or the original recording of the roundtable, so the complete order and duration of Trump’s remarks cannot be independently established from those accounts.

A podcast transcript result attributes this line to Klepper: “Buckle up, everyone. The man’s been up for four days. This is a jet lag weave. All right? This could get bumpy.” The excerpt is attributed to Klepper, but without an official show transcript or recording available here, it should be treated as a reported quotation rather than independently confirmed broadcast wording. The claim that Trump had been awake for four days is part of Klepper’s joke, not a verified fact about Trump. The recap also attributes a “13 more minutes” reference to Klepper; that is a satirical detail, not an independently established speech duration. Wave Podcast’s episode result supplies the excerpt and episode context.
