Roseanne Conner remains dead in The Conners. In “The Truck Stops Here,” her family revisits the opioid lawsuit connected to her fatal overdose, receives a $700 check, and visits her grave to tell her how their lives are going. The ending gives the family a final shared moment with Roseanne while also saluting the long history of the characters and the actors who played them.
How Roseanne’s death returns to the story
The finale’s lawsuit grows out of the Season 7 storyline. Jackie urges the family to take legal action against the opioid company whose medication was connected to Roseanne’s overdose. Dan is reluctant at first: pursuing the case means reopening painful memories of her death.

Dan gives a deposition, but the outcome is not a major financial recovery. The family receives a $700 check, which they open at Roseanne’s graveside. The small amount is a scripted plot detail, not a general measure of opioid settlements.
What the family tells Roseanne at her grave
Each relative uses the visit to bring Roseanne up to date. Becky says she is still sober; Jackie tells her she is back on the police force; and Darlene’s story has turned toward recommitting to her marriage with Ben. These updates show that the family is still living with the loss, but their lives have continued.

After the grave visit, the Conners return home, share food, and say goodbye. Mark’s move to New York for an IT opportunity happens in an earlier episode, rather than in the finale itself.
Why the $700 check matters
The modest check is deliberately different from a story in which a lawsuit suddenly makes the family wealthy. Executive producer Dave Caplan told TVLine that the amount was intended to be “just enough where they could blow it in one fell swoop on something silly.” The family’s food celebration makes the money a brief, shared occasion rather than a solution to their problems. Executive producer Bruce Helford also described the case as speaking beyond this fictional family: “That was not just about Roseanne, but Roseanne kind of represents all of the working-class families who never felt they got justice because they never got their turn at bat.” The story’s point is the family’s attempt to seek redress and face their grief—not a legal conclusion about the merits of a real opioid case. How the finale creates emotional closure
The grave visit gives the family a direct, final chance to speak to Roseanne. Caplan told TheWrap that revisiting the death was painful for the characters, but that the scene could provide “a kind of complete closure that maybe they didn’t have before.” It does not undo the loss; it lets the family acknowledge it together and show Roseanne what has changed. In the last living-room scene, the cast’s emotion becomes part of the goodbye. John Goodman, as Dan, breaks the fourth wall to say goodnight to viewers. TheWrap reports that Goodman suggested addressing the audience; the producers kept the moment because the feeling seemed real, rather than treating it as a plot revelation. The finale closes with footage from the original Roseanne, placing the spin-off’s farewell in the context of the characters’ longer television history. Helford told TV Insider the montage was meant to show the scope of that history and let viewers see the characters across the years. It is a tribute to the series and its legacy, not a return of Roseanne Conner to the story. Roseanne Barr does not appear in the finale.
