At a Coldplay concert on July 16, 2025, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, were shown embracing; when they noticed the camera, Cabot covered her face and Byron ducked out of view. The clip fueled speculation, jokes and real professional consequences—but it does not, by itself, prove the details of their private relationship.
What the Coldplay kiss cam actually showed
The moment happened during Coldplay’s performance at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts—not Boston proper. The Guardian later corrected its original venue description. A concertgoer, Grace Springer, recorded the footage and posted it to TikTok, according to ABC News Australia.
The Jumbotron showed Byron with his arms around Cabot. As the pair realized they were on screen, Cabot covered her face and turned away while Byron ducked out of frame. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked from the stage, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” The embrace, their reaction and Martin’s line became the clip’s defining sequence.
That footage establishes what happened in front of the camera; it does not establish the full nature of the relationship. The joke supplied a memorable interpretation, not proof. Neither Byron nor Cabot was reported to have made a direct public statement about the incident.

How a few seconds became a meme
The clip had an instantly legible visual punchline: an affectionate-looking embrace followed by two people trying to disappear from the screen. Martin’s quip gave reposts a ready-made caption. The video spread from TikTok to X and Instagram, where users made reaction-image edits, parody videos and reenactments.
Many jokes drew on workplace life: HR, office gossip, executive behavior, LinkedIn posts and corporate culture. Sports broadcasts and teams also parodied the kiss-cam setup. The humor depended on recognizing the awkward public moment; it did not make the underlying employment consequences fictional.

Fake apology posts attributed to Byron circulated during the joke cycle. Astronomer said Byron had not issued a statement and that reports claiming he had were incorrect. Those posts should be treated as parody or misinformation, not as an admission.
What Astronomer did after the clip spread
July 18: Investigation and leave
On July 18, Astronomer said its board had initiated a formal investigation. The Guardian reported the company’s statement: “The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.” The company said leaders were expected to uphold standards of conduct and accountability, placed Byron on leave and identified co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy as interim CEO. It also rejected purported statements attributed to Byron and said another employee named in online speculation was not at the concert.

What the viral numbers do—and do not—mean
ABC News Australia reported that the video had passed 70 million views after a day and 127 million by Friday morning. Those are dated snapshots reported in an article published July 25, 2025—not current or cumulative totals. Separately, the Associated Press reported that Luminate measured a 20% increase in Coldplay song streams in the days after the clip went viral. That figure describes a short-term change, not evidence of a lasting audience increase.
Why the story outlasted the clip
The episode joined a highly shareable visual, a joke that framed its meaning and a workplace story with recognizable roles: a CEO and a chief people officer. Once the clip was repeatedly recaptioned and reenacted, it circulated as both entertainment and shorthand for corporate embarrassment. For the people involved, however, the meme cycle overlapped with an investigation and two resignations. The mismatch—real reputational and professional stakes turned into reusable jokes—is the misery beneath the punchline.
