How does the show differ from the Gospel accounts?
The Chosen describes itself as a historical drama about Jesus’ life, told through the perspectives of people who knew him, in first-century Israel under Roman rule. Its creator, director, and co-writer is Dallas Jenkins. The series’ official FAQ explains that it adapts its source material: “Some locations and timelines have been combined or condensed. Backstories and some characters or dialog have been added.”
That distinction matters when interpreting characters and plot details. The performances and relationships are part of the show’s portrayal; not every backstory, line, or event shown is presented in the Gospels. For the biblical text, consult the Gospel accounts themselves. The series’ explanation of its approach appears in its official FAQ.
