Sorbello told Entertainment Weekly that they were in the water for almost three hours; after host TJ Lavin required them to continue without using their arms, Sorbello went under and was eliminated.
How the elimination unfolded
The contest took place in season 40, episode 17, “Location Change Era.” It was the last elimination before the final, with Sorbello facing Deal in a nighttime water endurance challenge. Sorbello estimated that the two spent almost three hours in the water.
As Sorbello recounted it, Lavin made the challenge harder by telling them to continue without using their arms. Sorbello ultimately went under, ending her run before the final.
What Sorbello said about the rules
Sorbello said she expected the contest to continue until she could no longer hold on. She recalled initially understanding the instruction as a requirement to tread water. When Deal began floating on her back and was not told to stop, Sorbello tried floating too.

She said she did not know exactly what the rules were. That is Sorbello’s account of her understanding during the contest; the interview does not include an official rules document or a separate explanation from the production team.
How Sorbello viewed her performance and exit
In retrospect, Sorbello said she felt she had done well in the elimination and had a strong season overall. She also said she was satisfied with the friendships she had made and was not sorry to miss the final, partly because she expected it to involve a lot of swimming. Those comments reflect her own assessment, rather than an independent evaluation of her performance or the final’s demands.

The interview also notes that Jordan Wiseley voted Sorbello into the elimination instead of Rachel Robinson. Earlier in the season, Sorbello had beaten KellyAnne Judd in the opening elimination.
Her view of how long she could have lasted
“I promise you, I would’ve been there until the sun came up,” Sorbello told Entertainment Weekly. It was her description of how willing she was to keep going—not a measured estimate of how long the contest could have continued.
