Parade also reports that original cast member LaRoyce Hawkins will appear in two or three opening episodes to wrap up Kevin Atwater’s story. That is a short return, not evidence that he is part of the season’s continuing regular lineup. The report is the clearest recent season 14 snapshot; Wolf Entertainment’s selected-cast page is not a complete roster for this season.
Chicago P.D. follows the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit. NBCUniversal announced that season 14 would air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, with new episodes streaming the following day on Peacock. Its announcement was dated October 1, 2026; the scheduled premiere was October 7.

How the cast changed over time
The show’s departures have not all meant the same thing. Some characters were written out through death, resignation or a new job; in other cases, actors or showrunners gave explanations for leaving the production. TV Insider’s August 17, 2025 retrospective provides this chronology of notable former regulars:
| Actor and character | When and how the character left | What is reported about the departure |
|---|---|---|
| Archie Kao as Sheldon Jin | Season 1 finale; Jin was killed. | The cited retrospective describes the character’s on-screen fate, not a separate actor-stated reason for leaving. |
| Brian Geraghty as Sean Roman | Season 3 finale; Roman resigned after an injury. | Then-showrunner Matt Olmstead characterized Geraghty’s departure as “the most civil, level-headed, mutual fan-fest agreement and departure that I’ve ever been a part of,” in a quote TV Insider attributes to TVLine. |
| Sophia Bush as Erin Lindsay | End of season 4; Lindsay left for an FBI job. | TV Insider reports that Bush alleged mistreatment on set. That is her allegation, not an independently adjudicated finding. |
| Elias Koteas as Alvin Olinsky | Season 5; Olinsky died in prison. | The cited account identifies the character’s story outcome; it does not establish a separate personal reason for Koteas’s exit. |
| Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson | End of season 6. | The retrospective gives the timing but does not state a reason for Seda’s departure. |
| Lisseth Chavez as Vanessa Rojas | After season 7; Rojas disappeared from the series. | The cited account does not establish a reason for Chavez’s departure. |
| Jesse Lee Soffer as Jay Halstead | Midway through season 10. | TV Insider reports that Soffer said he wanted to grow and expand. |
| Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton | End of season 11. | TV Insider reports that Spiridakos said she wanted to try something different. |
| Toya Turner as Kiana Cook | Reported to leave after one season. | The cited roundup reports the exit but does not give a reason. |
This chronology distinguishes the character’s ending from the actor’s motivation. A death or transfer explains what happened in the story; it does not, by itself, explain why an actor left. The account does not give a reason for every departure, so it is more accurate to leave those motivations unstated than to infer them.

Showrunner and executive producer Gwen Sigan described season 14 as an opportunity to continue with familiar characters while introducing new faces and trying different approaches. In Parade’s October 7, 2026 interview, she said: “And so that’s my goal is to just be with all these characters that we love, and also be able to try some new things and to push a little bit and to get some new faces in there and add a layer to this show that maybe we haven’t seen before and try new things and transition, too.”
That points to a deliberate transition rather than a return to the series’ original ensemble. The documented season 14 lineup is a snapshot, and the report’s short-term note about Hawkins should be kept separate from the continuing cast list.
