“Then and now” here means how the fictional Firehouse 51 characters and the series cast have changed—not what the actors’ private lives are like. The story began in 2012; as of October 8, 2026, Chicago Fire is airing its 15th season, with Peacock listing a mix of returning cast members and newer faces.
Who was in the original-era cast?
Season one introduced several characters who became the core of Firehouse 51. TVLine’s July 7, 2024 character guide identifies these six as appearing in the series premiere. Its list is a selected retrospective, not a complete season-one cast roster.

How have the characters changed?
The arcs below describe events in the drama, not the performers’ real relationships or family lives. TVLine’s character guide was published in 2024, so its account captures developments through that point rather than every change in the ongoing season 15.

Matthew Casey: from Firehouse 51 to Portland
Casey’s early life and relationships shifted over the series. In TVLine’s account, he eventually married Sylvie Brett and moved with her and her adopted daughter to Portland, where they were raising Andy Darden’s sons. Spencer is not on Peacock’s season 15 cast list.
Wallace Boden: a new leadership post
Boden was Firehouse 51’s central leader before leaving the house for the Chicago Fire Department’s deputy commissioner role. TVLine reports that he suggested Herrmann as his replacement, marking a transition in the fictional firehouse’s leadership.
Rank #2
Christopher Herrmann: veteran firefighter and mentor
Herrmann began as an experienced firefighter and family man. Over time, his role also included mentoring newer members. Boden’s recommendation positioned him for greater responsibility at Firehouse 51.
Kelly Severide: marriage and fire investigation
Severide’s story moved beyond a succession of short-lived relationships: he married Stella Kidd. TVLine also describes his growth as a fire investigator, adding a professional dimension to his character arc.

Joe Cruz: a growing family and a season 15 exit
Cruz’s fictional family grew through marriage, a baby and an adopted son, while he took on more responsibility on the rescue squad. Peacock’s current season page says Miñoso will appear for a few episodes in season 15 before leaving the series, so Cruz remains part of the story for a limited stretch rather than the full season.
Who is in the season 15 cast now?
Peacock’s season 15 page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists the following cast. The season premiered October 7, 2026, so this is a dated snapshot of an ongoing season, not a guarantee that the roster will remain unchanged.
| Performer | Character, where identified | Season 15 status in Peacock’s listing |

| Dermot Mulroney | Chief Dom Pascal | Listed cast member; scheduled for one episode to wrap up Pascal’s story |

Peacock’s official Chicago Fire page is the source for this current-season lineup and the stated departure notes. Because season 15 is newly underway, later episodes or announcements may change who appears and for how long.

A series retrospective and a current cast page answer different questions. TVLine’s guide, published July 7, 2024, tracks selected character histories; Peacock’s season 15 page reflects the season that began in October 2026. NBCUniversal announced on April 10, 2026, that the show would return for season 15 in the 2026–27 broadcast season and noted that the franchise has filmed primarily in Chicago since its inception. The location anchors the production, while the cast and the fictional leadership at Firehouse 51 have evolved.
