In the live-action The Boys, Soldier Boy is Ben, played by Jensen Ackles. He has super-strength and can fire an explosive energy blast from his chest; that blast can also remove a Supe’s powers. His shield is combat equipment, not a superpower.
Who is Soldier Boy in The Boys?
Soldier Boy is the name used by Ben, a former leader of the Supe team Payback. The television series says he was presumed dead before the Boys rescued him from a Russian laboratory in Season 3. Vought later cryogenically froze him. Amazon’s character guide identifies Jensen Ackles as the screen version and recounts these story details.
His return makes him central to Season 3’s search for a weapon that might neutralize Supes. The Prime Video Season 3 page describes the Boys pursuing the legend of Soldier Boy as they investigate that weapon.
What powers does Soldier Boy have?
Super-strength
Soldier Boy has super-strength, one of the abilities identified in GameSpot’s Season 3 report. It is an intrinsic ability, rather than a result of his shield.

An explosive chest blast
He can release a powerful burst of energy from his chest. The blast is a destructive attack, but it has an unusual effect on other Supes: it can strip them of their powers. Showrunner Eric Kripke described the depowering blast as a story device the writers had kept in reserve; in a May 20, 2026 interview, he said, “The de-powering blast was something that was in our pocket heading into the season.” (Rolling Stone Canada.) The series context matters: this describes what the blast can do, not a guarantee that every hit kills its target or has an identical lasting effect.
Is Soldier Boy’s shield a power?
No. The shield is a weapon he uses in combat, not an ability generated by his body. The available Season 3 power summary distinguishes his super-strength and chest blast from the shield he carries.

Is Soldier Boy Homelander’s father?
Yes. The television series reveals that Soldier Boy is Homelander’s biological father, a fact included in Amazon’s character guide. This is a relationship within the show’s story, separate from the question of Soldier Boy’s physical abilities.
Which version of Soldier Boy does this describe?
This article covers the live-action television character, not the source comic. Sony’s series page identifies The Boys as based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and names Eric Kripke as the series developer and showrunner. Adaptations can differ, so comic-continuity histories or power lists should not be treated as a description of Ackles’s character.
