She enters the story as a member of The Seven
Annie’s early career takes her into Vought’s elite superhero team, where the company’s staged image of heroism collides with what she sees behind the scenes.
-
Vought’s branding is not the same as its reality
Her time in The Seven makes the gap between the team’s polished public image and Vought’s corruption central to her story. Annie’s change is not just a new costume or name: it is a rejection of the role the company built for her.

The Deep sexually assaults her
Early in the series, the Deep sexually assaults Annie. The event is a serious abuse of power and shapes her experience in The Seven; it should not be reduced to a sensational plot twist.

She discovers she can fly, and her powers are light-based
Amazon’s Season 4 guide says Annie discovers she can fly during the Season 3 finale. The current Season 5 guide summarizes her abilities as light-based. The two descriptions provide a useful high-level picture, not a complete technical inventory of what she can do.
How should viewers understand Annie’s identity change?
“Starlight” is both the name Vought marketed and the public role Annie eventually rejects. Her shift to Annie January signals that she is no longer willing to let the company define her identity. She does not simply disappear from the superhero conflict: she leaves The Seven and takes her place with the Boys.
Is the television character the same as the comic-book Starlight?
The Boys is based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, as Amazon’s Season 4 guide notes. The series is its own screen version; the sources cited here establish the comic’s creators but do not establish a detailed, point-by-point comparison of Annie’s comic and television story. Readers interested in the source can seek out the comic without assuming that it serves as a direct biography of the TV character.
Which season guide reflects the current character description?
Amazon’s Season 5 guide, accessed October 8, 2026, calls the season the series’ final season and describes Annie as formerly known as Starlight, a member of the Boys, light-powered, and in a relationship with Hughie. It also says the season is streaming now, but availability can vary by region and date. For the on-screen events behind Annie’s departure from The Seven, Amazon’s Season 4 guide recounts the Season 3 livestream, suit disposal, and her joining the Boys.
