There is no single, fair leaderboard for the biggest TV series across streaming. Nielsen measures U.S. television viewing minutes; Netflix publishes global view counts for its own shows; and JustWatch charts recent user activity. Those figures describe different audiences, time periods and behaviors, so they should be read as separate snapshots—not combined into one ranking.
What counts as “biggest” on a streaming service?
The answer depends on the yardstick. A series can lead in total minutes because viewers watch many short episodes or revisit a long-running catalog. Netflix’s reported views offer a different measure of engagement over a six-month period. A daily discovery chart, meanwhile, reflects what people are looking up or adding to lists recently; it does not reveal how long they watched.
- Viewing minutes: Nielsen’s annual figures cover U.S. television viewing during a defined year.
- Platform-reported views: Netflix reports global figures for its own titles over half-year periods.
- Recent user activity: JustWatch charts user actions in a country and over a rolling time window.
Because the units and coverage differ, a Netflix “view” cannot be directly compared with a Nielsen minute or a JustWatch rank.

What Nielsen’s U.S. minutes reveal
Nielsen’s 2025 annual results name Bluey the year’s overall most-watched streaming title, with 45.2 billion minutes on Disney+. The series’ episodes average about eight minutes, and children make up more than half its audience, according to Nielsen. Grey’s Anatomy was the runner-up.

The same measurement period recorded over 11 billion minutes for The Pitt on HBO Max. Nielsen says the show entered its Streaming Top 10 five consecutive times toward the end of its first season’s 15-episode run. That is a strong annual viewing result, but it is not a platform-wide rank across every service.
Nielsen’s figures draw on its Streaming Content Ratings and National TV Panel for U.S. viewing on television. Its featured providers are limited to distributors with program-level data in Nielsen’s reporting systems, while the totals include streaming viewership beyond the providers listed on the page. What Netflix’s global view counts show
In its January–June 2026 report, Netflix named His & Hers its most-watched show, at 104 million views. Bridgerton Season 4 reached 100 million views, while the franchise generated 180 million views in total during that half. Netflix also said the new season’s return nearly tripled viewing of each earlier season compared with the preceding half-year. The report covers Netflix globally, not other services.
In the July–December 2025 report, Wednesday Season 2 led Netflix’s show list at 124 million views. Stranger Things Season 5 reached 94 million, and all five seasons together had 275 million views during that same half. The combined figure illustrates how a new season can bring viewers back to earlier installments; it does not show how the franchise compared with series on rival platforms.

Netflix also reported more than 97 billion hours watched across its entire service in the first half of 2026. That is a platform-wide total, not a figure for any one series. The company says it plans to move from six-month to yearly snapshots starting in Q1 2027, so the reporting cadence is expected to change.
Netflix’s reports also show that popularity is not limited to English-language titles: non-English titles accounted for more than a third of all Netflix viewing in the first half of 2026.

What is popular on Netflix right now?
The newest Netflix figures available in these reports are half-year totals, not a live “right now” ranking. For a current U.S. discovery signal, JustWatch publishes a TV-show chart alongside its all-title chart. Its ranks reflect activity such as clicks on streaming offers, watchlist additions and marking a title as seen—not measured viewing time.
JustWatch describes its charts this way: “The JustWatch Streaming Charts are calculated by user activity from the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.” The service says more than 50 million monthly users contribute to charts covering 140 countries and 4,500 services; charts are updated daily. Select the country and chart type that match your question, and treat rank changes as shifts in discovery interest rather than proof of who watched the most.
Which series is most popular on Max?
Nielsen’s cited 2025 U.S. television measurement reports over 11 billion minutes for The Pitt on HBO Max. That is a useful, dated indicator of the show’s viewing, not a live Max chart or a definitive claim about the service’s most popular series today. The available figures do not establish a current, directly comparable ranking for every service named here.
Where does Apple TV+ rank?
The figures above do not establish an Apple TV+ rank. Netflix’s view counts cover Netflix titles, and Nielsen’s cited provider coverage depends on program-level data availability. It would be misleading to fill that gap by comparing Apple TV+ with another service using a different measurement or by treating absence from one chart as evidence that it has no major series.

How to read streaming rankings without mixing them up
- Check the geography: Nielsen’s cited annual figures are U.S. television viewing; Netflix’s show reports are global; JustWatch charts are country-specific.
- Check the time window: Nielsen’s annual period ran from 2024-12-30 to 2025-12-28; Netflix reports half-years; JustWatch uses rolling 24-hour, 7-day or 30-day activity windows and refreshes daily.
- Check the unit: Minutes, platform-reported views and user-action ranks are not interchangeable.
- Check the coverage: A chart or report may include only titles, platforms or viewing environments that its provider can measure.
- Consider the format: Minutes can favor long-running series or shows with many episodes, while a franchise’s platform-reported views can rise when a new season renews interest in its catalog.
