The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 has the strongest audience signal in the available season rankings, while SAKAMOTO DAYS also placed highly on two different platforms. Below, the order is an editorial guide to what to watch, not a claim of universal consensus; platform lists measured different audiences and behaviors.
How this ranking works
The order weighs story and execution, direction and animation, genre appeal, accessibility for newcomers, and audience engagement. The available evidence supports the engagement comparisons, but not a universal season-wide vote: Niconico reported a mid-season list based on views, comments, and user engagement through February 16, while ABEMA published final results based on average episode views and broadcast comments. Those are separate platform-specific signals, not results to combine into one poll.

Best Winter 2025 anime, ranked
1. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
The strongest all-around starting point in this ranking—and the clearest cross-platform audience pick among the candidates documented here. It placed fourth in Niconico’s mid-season top ten and first in ABEMA’s final views ranking. Those results show interest on those services, not a definitive critical consensus.
Recommended Free Tools
#1 Best Overall
Choose it if you want a continuing historical mystery and character-driven court intrigue. Because this is season two, newcomers should start with the first season rather than jump straight into the Winter 2025 episodes.
2. SAKAMOTO DAYS
A strong choice for action-comedy, with a similarly notable platform showing: third in Niconico’s mid-season ranking and fifth in ABEMA’s final views ranking. ABEMA identified it as an adaptation of Yuto Suzuki’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga. If you would rather read the source material, start with volume 1; the cited ranking establishes the manga connection but not current stock or retailer availability.
Rank #2
It is the easiest pick here for viewers seeking brisk action and comic energy, while viewers who prefer a more dramatic tone may want to start with one of the other entries.
3. Medalist
Niconico ranked Medalist second in its mid-season list. Its central relationship gives the sports drama a clear entry point: coach Tsukasa Akeuraji mentors young figure skater Inori Yui. Try it if you are drawn to stories about training, ambition, and the pressure of competition.

4. From Bureaucrat to Villainess
This workplace-minded isekai comedy topped Niconico’s mid-season ranking. Its premise pairs public servant Kenzaburou Tondabayashi with an otome-game villainess role after reincarnation, making it a natural option for viewers who want genre comedy with an office-life angle.
5. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
Orb ranked third in ABEMA’s final views list. That is a strong service-specific audience result, though it does not establish how the series ranked across all Winter 2025 viewers. Consider it if you are looking for a more serious drama rather than a straightforward comedy or action pick.
Rank #4
6. Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World Season 3
Re:ZERO season 3 placed fourth in ABEMA’s final views ranking. It also won Best Continuing Anime Series at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, announced May 24, 2025. The award recognizes a continuing series; it is additional recognition, not a Winter 2025 season ranking. As a third season, it is best suited to viewers already following the story.

- For the strongest documented audience overlap: start with The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 or SAKAMOTO DAYS, which both appear near the top of Niconico’s mid-season and ABEMA’s final views lists.
- For sports drama: try Medalist.
- For isekai comedy with an office-life premise: try From Bureaucrat to Villainess.
- For an ongoing story you already follow: consider Re:ZERO season 3, or continue The Apothecary Diaries from its first season.
Before choosing a service, check its current catalog in your country. A title’s place in a historical lineup or platform ranking does not confirm that it is available to stream there today.

What the rankings can—and cannot—tell you
Niconico’s February list captured engagement through February 16, 2025; ABEMA’s report, published May 3, covered final-season results for series on its anime channel. ABEMA calculated average views per episode across live broadcasts and on-demand streaming, and average comments during broadcasts. Differences between the two lists are expected: the platforms, time windows, and measured behaviors differ.
The available rankings identify audience interest on those services, but they do not provide an independently attributable total audience for the whole season. Treat the placements as useful signals, then choose based on the genre and story you want.
