How to read this decade of picks
The phrase “past decade” can mean different date ranges. This list uses 2015–2024 inclusive, the ten-year span named by a matching list reproduced on ListChallenges and attributed there to Collider. That is an attribution through a third-party reproduction, not independent verification of Collider’s original page. The films are presented as that list’s selections, not as a definitive ranking of every thriller released in those years.

There is no single cross-decade measure here that proves these are the best. A useful judgment considers suspense and story construction, fit with the thriller label, critical reception, and the film’s lasting influence or rewatch appeal, without pretending that all ten have been scored on one consistent dataset. Different methods produce different results: Tom’s Guide describes its 2015–2025 picks as personal favorites, while Rotten Tomatoes’ 2021 guide orders films using an adjusted Tomatometer formula. Neither approach turns taste into fact.
The thriller pick for each year
2015: Sicario
This neo-western crime thriller brings the list into a world of law enforcement and escalating danger. Its crime-thriller identity makes it one of the more straightforward genre fits among these selections.

2016: 10 Cloverfield Lane
A contained psychological suspense story makes tension feel immediate: the limited setting keeps attention on uncertainty and the people trapped inside it. This is a tighter, more intimate kind of thriller than the crime and historical stories elsewhere on the list.
2017: Get Out
Get Out is a social thriller with horror elements. Its place here reflects how suspense can carry social themes, while its horror dimension makes the genre boundary worth noting.

2018: A Quiet Place
This survival suspense film uses horror elements and a high-stakes fight to stay alive. It is a thriller pick shaped as much by the threat of survival as by conventional mystery or crime plotting.
2019: Parasite
Parasite combines class satire and thriller storytelling. The hybrid is central to its appeal: the film can shift from darkly comic observation to unease, so reducing it to a single genre would miss what makes it distinctive. Tom’s Guide also placed it first in its own 2015–2025 personal-favorites list, discussing its suspense, dark comedy and class themes; that is another editorial choice, not a consensus verdict.

2020: Promising Young Woman
This revenge thriller incorporates dark comedy, giving its suspense a pointed and unsettling tone. The combination broadens the list beyond conventional crime and survival stories.
2021: Last Night in Soho

This romantic mystery and thriller brings romance into the selection’s range. Its inclusion shows that an investigation or mystery can also be driven by emotional entanglement.
2023: Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer is a historical biographical drama, not an unambiguous genre thriller. The selection treats its construction as thriller-like; including it makes sense only if the list allows suspenseful dramatic storytelling to count alongside conventional genre films.

2024: Heretic
The list closes with a horror thriller, a more direct hybrid than the historical-drama case. Its presence reinforces how broadly this selection interprets the thriller label.

The ListChallenges reproduction displays numbers beside the films but does not identify them in its text. They should not be treated as verified current Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb ratings. More broadly, an aggregator’s score or certification describes a particular rating process, not objective artistic quality. For example, TIME reported in 2018 that Rotten Tomatoes’ Certified Fresh threshold was 75% or higher, subject to minimum review counts—at least 80 reviews for wide releases or 40 for limited releases, including five from top critics. Those are certification rules, not a measure of a film’s inherent merit.
Rotten Tomatoes’ 2021 annual guide illustrates how a different method can yield a different winner: it says its ordering used Tomatometer scores as of December 31, 2021, adjusted by a formula to account for variation in review counts, and names Azor at the top. A score-led list and a handpicked list answer different questions.
Where to watch
Streaming availability depends on territory and changes over time. No current, region-specific availability is established for these ten films, so check a local streaming search or rental service before planning a watchlist rather than assuming an older guide remains accurate.
