This is a curated guide to notable science-fiction, fantasy, horror, superhero, animation, and franchise additions listed for U.S. subscription streaming in April 2024. “New” means one of three things: a streaming premiere, new episodes or a returning season, or an older title newly added to a service. Those categories are separated below so a library arrival is not mistaken for a new 2024 production. Catalogs are regional and change over time; an April 2024 arrival does not prove that a title remains on the same service in 2026.
Quick picks
- Best new series: Fallout on Prime Video, April 11.
- Best horror film: Late Night With the Devil on Shudder, April 19.
- Best family film: Wish on Disney+, April 3.
- Best superhero animation: X-Men ’97 for weekly episodes, or Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One on Max, April 22.
- Best catalog binge: Black Sails on Netflix or the Harry Potter films on Max.
- Best franchise rewatch: Mission: Impossible on Peacock.
The dates and service assignments below follow the U.S.-oriented April 2024 listings from Gizmodo’s April streaming guide. Release dates do not establish an exact release time, current availability, plan inclusion, or availability outside the United States.
The biggest new premieres
Fallout — Prime Video, April 11
Format: New series. Why it matters: This was April’s most significant mainstream genre premiere, adapting the post-apocalyptic video-game franchise for television. It is the clearest first choice for viewers seeking a large-scale science-fiction series rather than a library rewatch.
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Who should watch: Game fans, post-apocalyptic-fiction viewers, and anyone looking for one new series to start. Prior knowledge of the games is not required to understand the basic premise, but longtime fans may notice more franchise connections. The safest expectation is an adaptation set in the game’s world, not a retelling of one specific game.
Check Prime Video for the service’s current availability and plan requirements.
Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver — Netflix, April 19
Format: New film. Why it matters: The second installment continues Netflix’s original science-fiction space-opera project. It is aimed at viewers who want franchise spectacle and serialized world-building.
Who should watch: Viewers who watched Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire and want the continuation. Starting with Part Two is likely to reduce the story’s impact, so this is better treated as the next chapter rather than a standalone recommendation.

Dead Boy Detectives — Netflix, April 25
Format: New series. Why it matters: This supernatural mystery series is connected to the broader Sandman universe, making it a natural choice for viewers drawn to occult investigations, fantasy, and comic-book adaptations.

Who should watch: Fans of supernatural mysteries and ensemble fantasy. Familiarity with The Sandman may add context, but the series should be approached as its own mystery-driven story rather than as a direct continuation of a particular season.
Them: The Scare — Prime Video, April 25
Format: Anthology horror season. Why it matters: The series offers a new horror story and setting rather than simply repeating the first season’s narrative. It is the strongest Prime Video choice for viewers seeking serious, unsettling horror instead of post-apocalyptic or superhero spectacle.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWho should watch: Horror viewers interested in an anthology structure and a more socially grounded tone. Because it is a new story, it may be more approachable than a conventional season-two continuation, although viewers should still check the service listing for any content warnings.
Late Night With the Devil — Shudder, April 19
Format: Shudder Original Film. Why it matters: Its faux-live-television and found-footage framing gives the film a distinctive horror setup without requiring a large franchise commitment.
Who should watch: Horror fans who enjoy contained premises, broadcast-era atmosphere, and supernatural unease. It is the month’s strongest specialist-horror recommendation by editorial judgment. No previous viewing is required, and avoiding detailed plot information will preserve its surprises.
Check Shudder before subscribing; a dedicated horror service is a stronger fit here than a broad streamer if this is the main title you want to watch.

Infested — Shudder, April 26
Format: Shudder Original Film. Why it matters: This contemporary international creature feature is the April pick for viewers who want intense, modern horror rather than a familiar studio franchise.
Who should watch: Creature-feature enthusiasts and committed Shudder subscribers. It requires no earlier film, but viewers sensitive to insect or infestation imagery should review the service’s content information first.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One — Max, April 22
Format: New animated DC feature. Why it matters: It is the month’s main superhero-animation arrival, distinct from a live-action DC film and positioned as the first part of a larger animated event.
Who should watch: DC animation fans and viewers who enjoy multiverse stories. Because it is labeled Part One, readers should expect an incomplete larger arc rather than a fully self-contained conclusion. Check Max for availability.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Wish — Disney+, April 3
Format: Film streaming arrival. Why it matters: It is the primary family-animation addition in this April genre selection.
Who should watch: Families and younger viewers looking for an animated musical-fantasy film. Parents should use Disney+’s current rating and profile controls when deciding whether it suits their children. The relevant question is whether it is included in the viewer’s Disney+ subscription, not whether the title is “free”; Disney+ is a paid service.

Returning shows, weekly episodes, and catalog binges
X-Men ’97 — Disney+
Classification: Continuing weekly episodes during April, not a complete April launch. The series continues the legacy of the animated X-Men television world, so it is best for Marvel animation viewers who want an episode-by-episode release rather than a bingeable film.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch — Disney+
Classification: New episodes during April. It should not be described as a new April series. Viewers following the season need to account for its continuing weekly schedule, while newcomers may prefer to begin with earlier episodes.
Black Sails, seasons 1–4 — Netflix, April 17
Classification: Library-series arrival, not a new Netflix production. The complete four-season addition makes it one of April’s best long-form genre binges for viewers who want pirate adventure, historical drama, and a finished series rather than a weekly premiere.

- Max: Choose it for the combination of Justice League, the Harry Potter films, Black Swan, and other established catalog titles.
- Shudder: Choose it if horror is your priority; Late Night With the Devil and Infested are the clearest reasons.
- Peacock: Choose it for M3GAN, Migration, and franchise depth across Mission: Impossible and Spider-Man.

A single standout title does not automatically justify a new subscription. Compare the service’s current plan terms with a one-time digital rental, an existing household bundle, free ad-supported availability, or physical media before signing up. Current August 2026 prices and promotions were not verified in the April 2024 research, so no current dollar amount should be inferred from this guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Were all of these titles new 2024 releases?
No. The guide separates new premieres, continuing episodes, and older films or series newly added to a service. For example, Fallout is a new series, while Black Sails is a library-series arrival.
Do I need to watch the games before Fallout?
The April listing identifies the series as based on the post-apocalyptic video-game franchise, but it does not establish a required viewing order. Game knowledge is best treated as optional context rather than a prerequisite.
Is April 2024 availability still guaranteed in 2026?
No. Streaming catalogs are regional and rotate. Check the service’s current listing before subscribing or assuming a title is included.
The Bottom Line
For one new series, start with Fallout. For specialist horror, choose Late Night With the Devil or Infested on Shudder. Families should look first at Wish, while superhero and franchise viewers have strong options in X-Men ’97, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One, Harry Potter, and Mission: Impossible. Treat the dates as a historical U.S. April 2024 guide, not a guarantee of current catalog availability.
