Editor’s date note: The 2026 Independence Day broadcasts aired on Saturday, July 4, 2026. This guide records the official viewing options available that night; future July 4 schedules, platforms and replay windows may differ.
For the main 2026 events, Macy’s streamed on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern, the Boston Pops streamed on CNN.com and the CNN app from 7 p.m. Eastern, and A Capitol Fourth streamed on PBS—but on Friday, July 3, not July 4.

Best for: viewers who want a polished national production focused on New York City, musical performances and a large fireworks finale.

CNN’s broader Fourth in America coverage had subscription restrictions, but CNN and Massachusetts officials said the complete Boston Pops event would be available through CNN.com and the CNN app to all users. That access description applied to the 2026 broadcast and should not automatically be assumed for a future year. The show featured Lainey Wilson, Chance the Rapper, Trombone Shorty and a drone display. Details came from the CNN press announcement and the Massachusetts announcement.
Best free choice documented for 2026: the Boston Pops stream, especially for viewers who wanted the full concert, drones and fireworks rather than only a short fireworks segment.
How to watch the Washington, D.C., celebration
A Capitol Fourth was not a July 4 live concert in 2026. It premiered on Friday, July 3, at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT and streamed through the PBS website, PBS app, official program site, YouTube and Facebook.

PBS said the program remained available on demand for two weeks after the broadcast. The televised fireworks finale came from George Washington’s Mount Vernon. A separate large fireworks display took place over the National Mall on July 4; the U.S. Capitol Police information explained that there was no public viewing from Capitol grounds for the July 4 fireworks.
Best for: viewers seeking a traditional patriotic concert and public-media presentation, provided they are watching on July 3 or using the confirmed replay window.
Free and cord-cutter options
- Free without a paid subscription: PBS’s online presentation and the Boston Pops stream were the clearest 2026 options.
- Free with equipment or existing access: NBC may be receivable with an over-the-air antenna, and Peacock or a live-TV service may already be included in an existing account.
- Paid access: Peacock was the official online home for Macy’s. CNN’s broader Fourth in America coverage generally required CNN streaming or pay-TV access.
- Free trials: Do not sign up solely for a trial without checking current eligibility, billing terms and cancellation rules.
Prices and trial terms were not verified for this guide, so they should not be treated as fixed. An antenna can be the cheapest long-term way to receive local NBC broadcasts, but reception depends on location and it does not provide Peacock-exclusive features or app-based replay.

Watch on a smart TV, phone or laptop
- Install or open the Peacock, PBS or CNN app on a supported smart TV, streaming stick, game console or mobile device.
- If the event does not appear, update the app and search directly for the event title rather than opening an old article link.
- On a phone or computer, use AirPlay, Chromecast or an HDMI cable if the television app is unavailable.
- Expect online video to lag behind broadcast television by several seconds or more. Different feeds can also make music and fireworks appear slightly out of sync.
If the stream is unavailable
- Refresh the official event page or reopen the broadcaster’s app.
- Sign out and back in, then confirm that you are using the correct account.
- Try the web player, mobile app or connected-TV app.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, or restart the router.
- Search the service for the event name in case the live page has changed to an on-demand page.
- Use an official alternate platform, such as PBS’s YouTube or Facebook stream where applicable.
A missing live player may mean the event has not started, has ended, is geographically restricted or has been replaced by a replay. Refreshing can reduce delay, but it may also move you away from the live position.

Major broadcasts often contain hosts, interviews, musical performances, commercial breaks, prerecorded segments and coverage from several cities. The program start is therefore not necessarily the moment the fireworks begin. For Boston in 2026, the fireworks were scheduled for approximately 9:15 p.m. Eastern; Macy’s fireworks appeared late in the two-hour national program.
Weather, heat and event-safety conditions can change outdoor schedules. For a future July 4, check the event organizer, broadcaster and local emergency-management channels immediately before watching.

Finding a local fireworks stream
Do not assume that every city has an official livestream. Check the city government website, event organizer, local television station and official city YouTube or social channels. Unofficial YouTube results may be fan recordings, delayed camera views, commentary-heavy coverage, incomplete feeds or streams removed for copyright reasons. Prefer an official broadcaster or organizer’s feed.
