For a June 2025 watchlist, these were some of the strongest movie picks highlighted for NOW Cinema: Oppenheimer for a prestige biopic, Barbie for lively group viewing, The Holdovers for bittersweet comedy-drama, and Shrek for family fantasy. The recommendations below are a dated guide, not a promise that the films are still in NOW’s catalogue.
NOW is the service many viewers still search for as NOW TV. “Best” is a matter of taste, so this June 2025 selection is organised by mood and viewing occasion rather than presented as an official ranking. The choices come from a contemporary Stuff guide published on 2 June 2025 and updated on 4 June, which linked its film picks to NOW Cinema: Stuff’s best movies on NOW TV guide.
Prestige films and human drama
Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan’s biopic follows physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the work that contributed to the Manhattan Project and the development of atomic weapons. Choose it for an intense, large-scale historical drama. Stuff noted its 2024 Oscars without specifying an award count in the passage consulted.
The Holdovers
Set in 1970, this bittersweet comedy-drama leaves a teacher and several students at a New England boarding school over Christmas. It is a more intimate choice when you want character-driven storytelling rather than spectacle.
#1 Best Overall
- Return to Pandora for the third chapter of Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully and his family. Reeling from one death, the Sullys set out to prevent another — aided by the Wind Traders. But on the way, they’re attacked by the Ash People, who blame Eywa for their ravaged home. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes may affect photosensitive viewers.
Spotlight and There Will Be Blood
Spotlight is another recommendation in the guide for viewers after serious drama. For a sprawling character study, try Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, a story of oil, ambition, religion and capitalism.
Comedies and films for watching together
Barbie
Greta Gerwig’s musical is a fish-out-of-water comedy led by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Its bright, comic approach makes it an easy pick when the group wants something playful.
Shrek
The first Shrek is a fairy-tale adventure with jokes aimed at adults as well as children, making it a particularly flexible family choice.
Rank #2

The Big Lebowski and Superbad
For offbeat comedy, Stuff recommends The Big Lebowski, a loose, rewatchable choice for film fans. Superbad offers another comedy option from the guide.

Blade Runner, Interstellar and Inception
The guide also recommends these science-fiction staples. Blade Runner is Ridley Scott’s dystopian Los Angeles story about a cop hunting escaped replicants; Interstellar and Inception round out the options for viewers after ambitious, idea-led spectacle.
Crime, tension and classic character studies
Goodfellas
Martin Scorsese’s crime film is among the guide’s selections for a gripping, high-energy classic.

Was Anora coming to NOW in June 2025?
A 6 May 2025 preview of Sky and NOW’s June highlights listed Anora as a June Sky Cinema arrival: Radio Times’ Sky and NOW June 2025 highlights. That makes it a dated release lead, not a ranking or independent assessment of the film. The preview also names television premieres, which should not be mistaken for film recommendations.
How to check what is on NOW now
The June 2025 list is not evidence of what is streamable today. NOW says its Cinema Membership includes movies and live Sky Cinema channels, and that it regularly updates its on-demand collection. Use NOW’s current catalogue to check a title before planning a watch: NOW Cinema Membership.
