What are the best movies of 2024 that are streaming now?
“Best” depends on what you want: critics’ recommendations, strong review scores, or a film people watched widely. The Washington Post’s 2024 picks offer a useful critics’ shortlist, while Metacritic aggregates reviews and JustWatch’s 2024 roundup ranks popularity. These are different measures, not interchangeable verdicts.
- For action and scale: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is an epic origin story, and The Fall Guy pairs action with comedy.
- For a twisty, performance-led crime comedy: Hit Man centers on Glen Powell’s comic performance.
- For unsettling horror: I Saw the TV Glow takes an existential approach.
- For romance and rivalry: Challengers builds its story around a tennis-centered romantic triangle.
- For acclaimed dramas and animation: Metacritic lists All We Imagine as Light at Metascore 93, Flow at 87, and A Real Pain at 85. Those are Metacritic scores, not audience ratings or a promise that every viewer will agree.
The Washington Post’s list is an editorial selection; Metacritic’s scores aggregate reviews. Neither establishes a universal ranking. JustWatch’s U.S. popularity roundup put Civil War first among its 2024 streaming titles, but popularity is not the same as critical acclaim—and the roundup also includes films released outside 2024.
Where can I watch these 2024 movies?
Availability is title-specific, U.S.-specific and subject to change. A film listed as available digitally might require a separate rental or purchase rather than a subscription. The older 2024 critics’ and service guides are useful for finding candidates, but they do not establish what is streaming in October 2026. Check the film’s current listing in your region before you press play.

Which 2024 movies are on Netflix, Hulu, Max, or Prime Video?
A platform-organized guide can help you browse, but a service label is only useful if it is current and applies in your country. TechRadar’s December 29, 2024 guide grouped 52 films by platforms including Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock and Prime Video. Those groupings describe its 2024 guide, not verified October 2026 availability.
To find a particular title, search the service directly or use a current title-level availability listing. Check whether the result says included with subscription, rent, buy, or disc. If the film appears only as a paid transaction, it is not included streaming on that service.

How to choose what to watch
- Choose by mood first. Use genre and tone to narrow the candidates: high-energy action, comic crime, existential horror, romantic drama, or animation.
- Use scores as one signal. Metacritic’s Metascore summarizes critics’ reviews; it does not predict your personal response. For example, David Fear of Rolling Stone, quoted in Metacritic’s A Real Pain entry, calls it “an easy watch, a buddy movie rooted in the existential fun of verbal sparring” with an emotional kick.
- Choose by access, not a stale platform label. If you already subscribe to a service, confirm the title is included there today. Otherwise, compare rental or purchase options if you are willing to pay separately.
- Keep popularity in perspective. Civil War topped JustWatch’s U.S. popularity ranking for its 2024 roundup; that says what ranked highly for popularity in that roundup, not what critics or every viewer considers best.
Streaming, rental, purchase and Blu-ray are different
“Watch at home” covers several kinds of access. Subscription streaming is included with a qualifying plan while the title remains in the catalog. A digital rental or purchase is a separate transaction, even if the store is built into a streaming device. A Blu-ray is a physical product, not a streaming benefit.
For Dune: Part Two, JustWatch’s U.S. listing checked September 11, 2026 included Blu-ray purchase availability through Amazon DVD/Blu-ray. That makes Dune: Part Two Blu-ray a relevant option for viewers who want a physical copy; check the retailer for the exact edition, stock and current listing. A24 also provides Amazon DVD and Blu-ray links for Civil War.
