Hulu’s catalog is not permanent. A film listed in October 2024 may have moved to another service, become available only to rent, or returned to Hulu under a later licensing agreement. An archived article cannot prove that every title remains available today. Check the title directly in the U.S. Hulu catalog before planning a movie night.
The selections below are curated by mood, subgenre, and Halloween usefulness rather than by an objective critic-score ranking. The available contemporary sources establish release dates, premises, and seasonal availability, but they do not establish one definitive “best” order.
Which horror movies were the biggest new Hulu choices in October 2024?
| Movie | Best for | What to expect | October 2024 Hulu note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hold Your Breath (2024) | Slow-burn psychological horror | 1930s Oklahoma, Dust Bowl storms, family pressure, and an unseen or possibly supernatural threat | Hulu premiere announced for October 3, 2024 |
| Late Night with the Devil (2024) | Found-footage and occult horror | A live Halloween television broadcast spirals into demonic terror | Hulu arrival reported for October 19, 2024 |
| Carved (2024) | Campy creature comedy | A sentient, man-eating pumpkin attacks a historical reenactment village | Hulu Original premiere reported for October 21, 2024 |
| Sting (2024) | Contained creature horror | A pet spider grows into a dangerous alien arachnid | Hulu availability reported from October 11, 2024 |
| Mr. Crocket (2024) | Corrupted children’s television horror | A sinister host emerges from screens to abduct children and kill their parents | Hulu Original in the 2024 Huluween slate |
TheWrap’s October 20, 2024 guide to new Hulu movies reported the October arrivals for Late Night with the Devil, Sting, and Carved. Hulu’s official seasonal announcement supplied the strongest contemporaneous evidence for Hold Your Breath, Carved, and Mr. Crocket.
Hold Your Breath
Hold Your Breath is the best October 2024 Hulu choice for viewers who want atmosphere, historical setting, and psychological dread instead of a steady stream of jump scares. Sarah Paulson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach lead the film as a family struggles to survive the Dust Bowl in 1930s Oklahoma.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDust storms create the immediate physical danger, but the film’s deeper tension comes from the possibility that something unseen or supernatural is moving through the family’s already fragile world. The result is a slow-burn, dirt-covered period horror film built around uncertainty and Paulson’s performance. Hulu announced the film’s October 3, 2024 premiere, and TheWrap described it as a grounded, dirt-drenched horror story.
Choose Hold Your Breath when you want a serious, oppressive film that lets environmental danger and emotional strain do much of the frightening work. Viewers looking for fast pacing or flamboyant gore may prefer Sting or Carved.
Late Night with the Devil
Late Night with the Devil is the strongest pick for viewers who enjoy retro television aesthetics, occult horror, and a premise that steadily escapes its presenter’s control. David Dastmalchian plays Jack Delroy, the host of a late-night program whose live Halloween episode turns into demonic terror.
The found-footage or “found media” format makes the television studio feel both artificial and trapped. The broadcast structure supplies a clear escalation: the host must keep the show moving while the supernatural threat becomes increasingly impossible to contain. TheWrap reported the film’s Hulu arrival on October 19, 2024 and identified it as one of that year’s buzziest horror movies.
This is a particularly good group-watch selection because the fake broadcast invites viewers to inspect the frame, react to the guests, and debate where performance ends and possession begins.
Carved
Carved is the best Hulu pick for a deliberately silly Halloween night. The Hulu Original is set in a historical reenactment village, where survivors confront a sentient pumpkin that has developed a taste for human beings.
The film is seasonal, splatter-oriented, and intentionally unserious. Its man-eating pumpkin premise makes Carved a better match for viewers who want camp, practical-effects-style mayhem, and jokes than for viewers seeking a solemn supernatural story. Hulu and TheWrap both placed its Hulu premiere on October 21, 2024.
Carved works especially well after a heavier film. A party can follow Hold Your Breath or The First Omen with Carved when the group wants to replace dread with pumpkin-based splatter.
Sting
Sting is a contained creature feature about a girl whose pet spider grows into a dangerous alien arachnid. The film is aimed at viewers who want a straightforward monster movie with gooey violence and a confined setting.
The premise is simple and immediately visual: a small household pet becomes a rapidly escalating threat. TheWrap reported that Sting became available on Hulu on October 11, 2024 and characterized it as an intentionally gooey, contained monster film.
Pick Sting for creature horror, arachnid menace, and physical monster mayhem. Pick The Fly instead if you want the creature transformation to carry tragic scientific and emotional weight.

Mr. Crocket
Mr. Crocket is the Hulu Original to choose for a nightmare version of children’s television. A sinister host comes out of television screens, abducts children, and kills their parents, turning a familiar childhood format into a direct source of danger.

Hulu included Mr. Crocket in its 2024 Huluween slate, and Axios included it among the new Hulu horror films covered during the 2024 Halloween season.
Choose Mr. Crocket when the appeal is streaming-era original horror with a sinister children’s-media hook. The premise is disturbing rather than cozy, so it is not an ideal choice for a family Halloween watch simply because its villain comes from children’s programming.
Which modern horror movies on Hulu are the safest crowd-pleasers?
For a broadly accessible horror night, start with Barbarian, Smile, Us, or The First Omen. These films offer recognizable hooks, strong tonal identities, and enough suspense or thematic material to generate conversation after the credits.
Barbarian
Barbarian is the best choice for viewers who want a horror film that repeatedly changes direction. The story begins when a woman discovers that the rental property she booked is already occupied, then expands into a twist-heavy horror-comedy with an Airbnb-based setup.
Recommended Free Tools
Zach Cregger’s structure is the main attraction. The film uses dark humor and sharp changes in perspective to keep the audience uncertain about what kind of horror story it is watching. Hulu’s official Halloween announcement listed Barbarian among its October 2024 horror offerings, while TheWrap highlighted the film’s unpredictable construction and comic darkness.
Barbarian is a strong crowd-pleaser because viewers can compare their reactions to each shift in the story. Choose it over Smile if structural surprises matter more to you than a conventional supernatural threat.
The First Omen
The First Omen is the strongest choice for studio supernatural horror with religious imagery and franchise history. The prequel follows a young American woman sent to Rome who encounters a conspiracy connected to the birth of evil.
The film gives viewers a polished supernatural-horror experience while connecting its story to The Omen. Hulu’s official Halloween announcement named The First Omen among the fan-favorite horror films available during the 2024 seasonal campaign.

Choose The First Omen when you want ecclesiastical settings, conspiracy, and franchise continuity. The film is a better fit for viewers who enjoy mythological or religious horror than for viewers seeking the grounded uncertainty of Hold Your Breath.
Immaculate
Immaculate is a claustrophobic religious-horror film starring Sydney Sweeney as an American woman whose experience at an isolated Italian convent becomes increasingly disturbing. Faith, confinement, and pregnancy-related body horror shape the film’s appeal.
The isolated convent gives the story a restricted physical environment, while the religious setting creates pressure around the character’s body and choices. Hulu’s official announcement listed Immaculate among its seasonal horror offerings for October 2024.
Choose Immaculate for contemporary convent horror and escalating bodily dread. Viewers who want a more traditional supernatural mystery may find The Sixth Sense more restrained and accessible.
Smile
Smile is the accessible mainstream choice for viewers who want supernatural psychological horror built around a memorable visual idea. The film turns a seemingly friendly smile into a sign of contagious-looking trauma and escalating danger.
The premise is easy to understand, the imagery is immediately recognizable, and the supernatural threat keeps returning in increasingly unsettling forms. Hulu’s official Halloween announcement named Smile as a fan favorite in its October 2024 lineup.

Choose Smile when you want a recognizable supernatural hit for a mixed group of horror fans. Choose Us when you want a more symbolic and thematically layered film.
Us
Us is the best Hulu selection for viewers who want social horror, family tension, and symbolism alongside scares. Jordan Peele’s 2019 film follows a family confronted by violent doubles who look like them but represent a much larger threat.
The family-centered setup gives the film an immediate emotional stake, while the doubles create room for interpretation and rewatching. Hulu’s official Halloween announcement included Us among its October seasonal recommendations.
Us is a good choice for a discussion-oriented movie night because the film’s symbolism and mythology invite debate after the ending. Viewers seeking a more direct, high-concept social thriller can follow it with The Purge.
Which Hulu horror movies are best for psychological or supernatural dread?
Hold Your Breath, Smile, The Sixth Sense, and Us cover different versions of psychological or supernatural fear: historical paranoia, contagious trauma, ghosts, and violent doubles. The right selection depends on whether you prefer ambiguity, mainstream scares, restraint, or symbolism.
The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is the most broadly accessible restrained supernatural recommendation on this list. The 1999 film follows a child who says he can see dead people and the psychologist trying to help him.
The story emphasizes atmosphere, grief, and the relationship between the child and psychologist rather than constant gore. Hulu specifically included The Sixth Sense in its M. Night Shyamalan collection for the October 2024 Halloween campaign.
Choose The Sixth Sense for a quieter supernatural film that works for viewers who may not enjoy extreme horror. The film is also a natural choice when the group wants a familiar classic rather than a new release.
Signs
Signs is a rural family horror-thriller about unexplained crop circles and the possibility of an extraterrestrial threat. The film prioritizes suspense, family drama, and uncertainty over graphic violence.
The rural setting isolates the family while the crop-circle mystery expands beyond their property. Hulu’s official announcement included Signs in the same M. Night Shyamalan collection as The Sixth Sense, The Happening, and Unbreakable.

Choose Signs when you want science-fiction horror with family stakes. It is a better fit than The Fly for viewers who prefer suspense around a possible external threat rather than a graphic transformation happening to one central character.
Which Hulu movies are best for creature features and body horror?
Sting is the most direct creature-feature pick, while The Fly is the essential choice for tragic, graphic body horror. Both films use physical transformation, but they pursue very different tones and emotional effects.
The Fly
The Fly is David Cronenberg’s body-horror classic about a scientist whose teleportation experiment causes a grotesque physical transformation. The film combines practical-effects-style physical horror with tragic science fiction.
The transformation is not merely a monster reveal; it is the central emotional and physical process of the story. That makes The Fly a strong recommendation for mature viewers who want body horror with scientific ambition, romance, and tragedy rather than a disposable creature attack.

Hulu’s official Halloween announcement listed The Fly among its October 2024 horror offerings. Choose it when you want the most physically unsettling film in this guide and are comfortable with graphic transformation imagery.

Which Hulu horror movies are best for high-concept suspense?
The Purge is the clearest high-concept social thriller, while Signs uses a possible extraterrestrial threat to create family-centered suspense. Both films begin with a simple question and use a contained situation to pressure their characters.
The Purge
The Purge is a home-invasion thriller set during one night when nearly all crime is temporarily legal. The family-siege structure gives the premise immediate stakes, while the social rules create a framework for political and social allegory.
The film is best for viewers who enjoy high-concept thrillers, escalating attacks on a confined home, and contemporary political ideas expressed through genre. Hulu’s official Halloween announcement listed The Purge among the titles arriving or available around October 1, 2024.

Which classic or cult horror movies should you watch on Hulu?
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the cult party pick, while The Fly and The Sixth Sense provide more conventional classic-horror experiences. These selections are useful when a Halloween lineup needs a communal, musical, or historically influential change of pace.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 horror-comedy musical and cult classic featuring Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Its appeal comes from irreverence, theatricality, music, and the communal tradition surrounding midnight screenings.
The film is not the best recommendation for someone measuring Halloween movies by fright intensity. It is a better group-watch selection for viewers who want a party atmosphere, singalong energy, and a film people can react to together. TheWrap listed The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a Hulu arrival on October 1, 2024 and emphasized its communal screening tradition.
How should you choose among the best horror movies on Hulu right now?
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Atmospheric period horror | Hold Your Breath | Dust Bowl setting, family pressure, and slow-building psychological uncertainty |
| A fake live television broadcast | Late Night with the Devil | Retro presentation and a Halloween show sliding into demonic terror |
| A silly Halloween party movie | Carved | A sentient man-eating pumpkin and splatter-comedy energy |
| A monster movie | Sting | A pet spider becomes an alien arachnid in a contained setting |
| Children’s media turned sinister | Mr. Crocket | A television host emerges from screens to attack families |
| Twists and dark humor | Barbarian | The rental-house setup repeatedly changes the kind of story being told |
| Religious horror | The First Omen or Immaculate | Franchise supernatural horror versus isolated-convent body horror |
| Mainstream supernatural scares | Smile | A memorable visual hook and escalating psychological threat |
| Symbolism and family tension | Us | Jordan Peele’s social horror centers on violent doubles and a family under attack |
| Quiet ghost story | The Sixth Sense | A restrained supernatural drama about a child who sees dead people |
| Science-fiction suspense | Signs | Crop circles and a possible extraterrestrial threat pressure a rural family |
| Graphic body horror | The Fly | A teleportation experiment produces a tragic physical transformation |
| Home-invasion and social-thriller tension | The Purge | A single night of legalized crime turns a house into a siege site |
| A cult musical | The Rocky Horror Picture Show | Tim Curry, theatrical camp, and a communal Halloween atmosphere |
How can you turn these Hulu horror picks into a Halloween movie night?
Build the lineup around contrasting moods instead of watching fifteen similar films. A serious double feature could pair Hold Your Breath with The First Omen. A creature-focused night could pair Sting with The Fly. A group seeking laughs and audience participation could choose Carved and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
For a party between screenings, a Horror Trivia game gives guests something genre-related to do while food is served or while the next movie is being selected. The game is an optional companion to the films, not a replacement for a Hulu subscription or a way to access the movies.
Readers arranging a watch party should also confirm that every guest is comfortable with the selected content. The Fly contains graphic transformation horror, Mr. Crocket places children in danger, and Immaculate draws on pregnancy and body-horror themes. A lighter sequence can begin with The Sixth Sense or Signs before moving into more intense material.
Can you still watch these October 2024 horror movies on Hulu?
Some titles may still be available, but the October 2024 Hulu lineup should not be treated as a permanent catalog. Hulu’s current horror guide explains that select Hulu content can be accessed through Disney+, while additional Hulu content may require the Hulu app; the exact availability depends on the title, plan, territory, and date.
Before watching, search for the film in the U.S. Hulu app or on Hulu’s current official horror-movie guide. A current service page can help locate today’s catalog, but it cannot retroactively prove that a title was available in October 2024. If a film is missing, check the title’s current digital rental or purchase options separately rather than assuming that every October 2024 Hulu selection remains included.
Final recommendations
Start with Hold Your Breath for atmospheric psychological horror, Late Night with the Devil for inventive occult found media, or Barbarian for a twist-heavy crowd-pleaser. Choose Carved for camp, The Fly for body horror, Us for symbolism, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show for a party. Confirm the U.S. Hulu listing before you schedule the movie night because this guide describes October 2024 availability, not a permanent catalog.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these horror movies still on Hulu?
Not necessarily. This article is a historical snapshot of the U.S. Hulu catalog promoted during October and early November 2024. Hulu’s licensing changes, so check the current Hulu listing for each film before watching.
Is this a definitive ranking of the best horror movies on Hulu?
No. The selections are curated by mood, subgenre, and Halloween usefulness rather than ranked by one objective critic score. Hold Your Breath is the atmospheric pick, Late Night with the Devil suits occult-horror fans, Carved suits camp fans, and Us suits viewers who want symbolism.
Can you watch every Hulu horror movie through Disney+?
Hulu’s current guide says select Hulu content is accessible through Disney+, while additional Hulu content may require the Hulu app. Access depends on the title, plan, territory, and date, so verify the film in the relevant U.S. service catalog.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The strongest all-purpose picks from Hulu’s October 2024 horror lineup were Hold Your Breath, Late Night with the Devil, Barbarian, and Us. Choose Carved or The Rocky Horror Picture Show for a social Halloween gathering, and verify availability because streaming rights change.
