There is no official winner: “best” depends on whether you want a choice that is recognizable, surprising, funny, or genuinely easy to defend. For a strong shortlist, start with Venom, Luigi, Mewtwo, Smaug, Sally Carrera, or the Burger King—and pick the one your audience will least expect you to explain.
What “hear me out” means
“Hear me out” is a playful lead-in to an unconventional fictional-crush choice: the speaker signals that the pick may surprise people and invites them to hear the case. It is not an official character category. One recognizable version of the trend is the cake reveal, with character images mounted on sticks and placed in a cake, as described by The Mary Sue.
Strong picks for a hear-me-out list
These are examples from two separately published lists, not a universal ranking. The reasons below are editorial ways to frame each pick, not measured audience preferences.

The wikiHow copy says its poll included more than 30,000 users, but the surfaced account does not provide enough methodological detail to call it representative or treat its examples as a definitive ranking. The Mary Sue list is author Jeanette White’s opinion, not a popularity measurement.

How to choose your own “best”
Use a few clear criteria rather than pretending there is a score everyone agrees on:
- Surprise: Is the pick unexpected enough to earn the “hear me out” setup?
- Recognition: Will the people hearing your list know who the character is?
- A case you can make: Is there a trait, story, or design choice you can point to?
- Tone: Do you want the choice to sound sincere, funny, or intentionally outrageous?
For a balanced shortlist, mix a familiar pick such as Venom or Shrek with a more eyebrow-raising choice such as Sally Carrera or the Burger King. The right mix depends on the audience; the published examples do not establish one best order.

If you are making the cake version
Print or draw the character images, mount them on suitable display sticks, and arrange them in the cake for the reveal.
