If you want anime where money matters to the story, start with Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf for trade and bargaining. For very different takes, C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control turns financial stakes into science fiction, Kakegurui makes gambling a test of social power, and The Richest Man in GAME builds a comedy around a business that must lose money. These shows explore money in distinct ways; none is a substitute for an economics course or financial advice.
Which anime about money should you watch?
Choose by the kind of money story you want: merchant trade, speculative finance, gambling, or business comedy. The distinctions matter: a series about gambling and hierarchy is not necessarily a story about markets or commerce.
| If you want… | Try… | What money does in the story |
|---|---|---|
| Trade and bargaining | Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf | Goods, deals, trust, and a traveling merchant’s ambitions |
| Speculative finance | C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control | Participants stake assets and their futures in battles |
| Gambling and social power | Kakegurui | Wagers decide who wins, loses, and holds status |
| Business comedy | The Richest Man in GAME | A protagonist must run a business at a loss to get rich |
Trade and bargaining: Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf
This is the closest match for viewers looking for commerce at the center of a character-led story. Traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence buys goods such as wheat and furs in one place to sell them elsewhere. Alongside Holo, he pursues new commercial opportunities, makes deals, tests trust, and dreams of opening his own shop. The official anime site presents the pair’s merchant life as part of their journey.
The series is also a fantasy adventure and relationship story, not a textbook. Crunchyroll’s 2024 guide says author Isuna Hasekura researched medieval economic systems to lend authenticity to the setting; that background does not make the show comprehensive economics instruction.

#1 Best Overall
The anime site identifies Hasekura’s Spice and Wolf light novel, published by KADOKAWA, as the source work. It lists four Blu-ray volumes for the 2024 Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf series and announces a second season for 2027. Check the relevant edition, regional playback compatibility, release timing, and local availability before buying or planning a watch.
Speculative finance: C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control
For financial stakes filtered through science fiction, Tatsunoko Production’s official catalog describes university student Kimimaro entering a parallel financial district where participants stake their assets and futures in battles. The catalog calls it, in the original Japanese, “デュエルバトルに経済という要素を融合させた、異色の金融SFアクション。” A working English translation is: “An unusual financial science-fiction action series that fuses an element of economics with duel battles.”

The financial rules are fictional and stylized, so treat the series as a speculative premise rather than guidance about investing or managing money. Tatsunoko lists it as an 11-episode series broadcast from April through June 2011 on its official catalog page.
Gambling and social hierarchy: Kakegurui
Kakegurui is the pick for viewers interested in risk, wagers, and money as social power. Its official introduction frames gambling as a contest with winners and losers, where wealth and honor can be won or lost, and presents that risk-taking world as a cruel miniature of society. That makes it a broad money-themed choice, but its emphasis is gambling and hierarchy rather than trade or market economics. See the official introduction.

Business comedy: The Richest Man in GAME
This series flips the usual business success story into a comic problem: according to Fuji TV’s official page, a salaryman travels back to his university years and receives capital through a mysterious “wealth conversion system.” To become rich, he has to run a business at a loss. It is an unusual entrepreneurship premise, not a practical guide to running a company.
Fuji TV lists Japanese broadcasts beginning in October 2025 and Japanese rental-streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video. That information does not establish current catalog status or availability outside Japan. The page also says the adapted Chinese animation exceeded 100 million cumulative views on bilibili; it does not state when that total was measured, so it should not be read as a current or independently audited popularity comparison.
