Spotify raised US Premium prices effective January 15, 2026. The current rates displayed on Spotify’s US page are $12.99 a month for Individual, $6.99 for Student, $18.99 for Duo and $21.99 for Family. Existing subscribers did not all move to the new rate on January 15: Spotify says it emails affected subscribers and applies the change according to each account’s billing cycle.
Spotify Premium prices in the US
Spotify’s US Premium page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists these monthly rates. Offers and eligibility terms can change, so check the page and your account before making a decision.

When the new price applies to existing subscribers
Spotify’s January 15, 2026 announcement said US subscribers would receive an email over the following month explaining what the update meant for their subscriptions. The announcement did not say that every account would switch on the same date. Spotify Support says subscribers receive a one-month grace period before the new price takes effect, and the billing date depends on when the account was started. Check your account page and the email from Spotify for your own effective date and next charge.

Spotify says a trial user receives one month at the original price after the trial ends; the new plan price applies after that month. Your account’s displayed billing details are the relevant guide to what you will be charged and when.
What to do before your next billing date
Spotify lists three options for subscribers reviewing a price update: check whether they qualify for another paid plan, continue with Spotify Free, or cancel before the next billing date. A plan switch is different from cancelling; confirm your eligibility and the resulting billing details in your account rather than assuming a switch will postpone or avoid a charge.

- Check your account and email. Review Spotify’s price-update email and your account page for the date the new rate applies and your next billing date.
- Compare plans against your household. Consider how many people need separate accounts and whether they meet the same-address or Student eligibility rules.
- Choose a plan or Free. Spotify Free is ad-supported and provides access to saved tracks, playlists, podcasts, and music and podcast listening.
- Cancel in time if you do not want to continue. Spotify advises cancelling before the next billing date. Follow the account’s cancellation flow and check the account page for confirmation.

Can you still use a lower-price Spotify gift card?
Spotify says lower-price gift cards remain redeemable, but only for Premium Individual. A gift card does not reduce the recurring subscription rate: after any covered period, the Individual plan’s applicable price is the rate in effect for the account.

Why Spotify says it raised prices
In its January 15 announcement, Spotify said: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” Spotify Support separately describes the update as intended to help it “continue to innovate in changing market conditions” and provide a personalized experience and discovery tools. These are the company’s stated reasons, not independent findings about the effects of the increase.
At Spotify Investor Day on May 21, 2026, co-CEO Alex Norström said, “We’ve raised prices multiple times with minimal churn because users see the value and stick around.” That is Spotify’s characterization; it does not establish an independently verified churn figure for this US price change.
