That makes it the top entry in a community rating list—not a permanent or universal verdict on anime. The order can change as members rate titles, and the mirror’s figures are live rather than a dated annual ranking. [MyAnimeList ranking mirror]
What “best anime of all time” means on MyAnimeList
The ranking mirror says its all-time list is ordered by MyAnimeList weighted scores. It is therefore a ranking of titles by the site’s rating system, not a critics’ poll or a measurement of which series is objectively best. The mirror also offers distinct views for top airing, popularity, favorites, and anticipated titles; those lists answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable. [Ranking mirror]
The available evidence does not establish the precise current top ten or explain the score calculation in detail. For that reason, a fixed list of positions and scores would risk presenting changing or unverified data as settled fact.

Sousou no Frieren leads the mirror’s snapshot
The ranking mirror currently places Sousou no Frieren first. It displays a score of 9.1 and approximately 0.5 million members; those are values shown in the mirror’s live snapshot, not durable statistics or a dated annual report. Check the page for the latest position and figures. [Ranking mirror]

The leader has changed before
On March 4, 2023, MyAnimeList’s official account announced: “Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season – Kanketsu-hen is now the highest-rated anime of all time, passing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood!” That statement records the ranking at that time, not the current result. It illustrates why “highest-rated anime of all time” needs a date attached. [MyAnimeList’s March 4, 2023 post]
How to choose from the ranking
Position alone says little about whether a title suits your taste or viewing time. The ranking rows include several details that help put a score in context:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Weighted score and rank: Use these to see how a title places in this particular rating list.
- Member count: Treat it as a rough signal of audience scale, not as a quality score or proof of broad consensus.
- Format and episode count: These indicate the kind of title and the likely viewing commitment. A longer series may suit a different viewing plan than a shorter entry.
- Genres: Use them as a starting point for finding titles closer to your interests, rather than assuming that a high position means every genre will appeal to you.
Popularity and rating are separate signals: a popularity list is not the same thing as a weighted-score ranking. Also check the exact entry you are considering; the ranking can include anime entries with different formats and episode counts, so a title’s row matters as much as its position. [Ranking mirror]
