There was no official best- or worst-dressed award at the 2024 Brownlow Medal. On the red carpet, Dee Salmin’s reworked formal dress and stained-glass-inspired halter top make the strongest case for a standout look: distinctive, carefully made and personal. Annalise Dalins’s Oglia-Loro Couture gown and Rebecca Judd’s J’Aton Couture gown brought couture glamour, while the evening’s mix of corsetry, lace, feathers and statement accessories made for a varied fashion lineup.
Any best-and-worst verdict is subjective. The picks below weigh visual impact, fit and styling, originality, formality and reuse. They are editorial judgments, not a poll or a formal scorecard.
How to judge the 2024 Brownlow looks
The Brownlow red carpet is part of the event’s spectacle, but it does not come with an official fashion ranking. The AFL’s own gallery put it plainly: “It may be the biggest night on the football calendar, but before the vote gets underway, fashion is the focus.” That is event framing, not a verdict on any guest’s outfit.
For a useful comparison, consider how a look reads as a whole: silhouette, color and texture; fit and coordination; originality; suitability for a formal awards night; and, where relevant, whether the outfit gives existing clothing a new life. Those criteria favor deliberate choices over price or designer name alone.

Best dressed: the strongest looks
Dee Salmin: the most original and personal outfit
Dee Salmin’s look is the clearest standout for originality and reuse. AAP reported that she turned her year-12 formal dress, which she had bought second-hand on Etsy in 2011, into a skirt for her second Brownlow appearance. She paired it with a halter top made from stained-glass shards by Melbourne designer Poppy Templeton and local jeweller Millie Savage. The combination connects personal history with unusual craft; it is more memorable than a look relying on a familiar formal silhouette alone.
AAP reported that the original dress cost $20 at the time Salmin bought it. That figure refers only to the historical purchase price of the dress, not the finished skirt or her full 2024 outfit.

Annalise Dalins: couture with formal impact
Annalise Dalins wore an Oglia-Loro Couture gown, credited to the label by AAP and ELLE Australia. It represents the red carpet’s couture end: a formal, designed-for-the-occasion look that makes its impact through gown-making and presence. AAP reported that Oglia-Loro styles typically retailed for five-figure sums at the time; that is a general price description, not a confirmed price for Dalins’s particular gown.
Rebecca Judd: a polished return
After a hiatus from the Brownlow red carpet, Rebecca Judd returned in a strapless, floor-length J’Aton Couture gown, according to AAP. ABC News and ELLE Australia also featured her look. Its appeal is the assured formality of a full-length couture gown; the return itself adds context, but the outfit merits attention on its own.

Other looks and trends worth noticing
Couple styling: Dee Salmin and Darcy Moore
ABC News noted matching chain details in the styling of Salmin and Darcy Moore. Coordinated details can make a couple’s appearance feel considered without requiring matching outfits. The point is the visual link between their looks, not a claim that every element was identical.
Corsetry, texture and statement accessories
ABC News observed that corset-style bodices were popular among the looks it covered. Its gallery also included lacy or feathery details, a sparkly black gown and a statement bird accessory. Together, these examples show the range of approaches on the carpet; they do not establish that one style dominated the entire guest list.

That makes a categorical “worst dressed” label difficult to support without pretending there is a settled consensus. A fair critique should identify a specific styling choice—such as a mismatch between accessories and silhouette or an outfit that feels less suited to the occasion—rather than attack someone’s body. The cited coverage documents looks and designers, but it does not establish a named worst-dressed consensus or an event-wide fashion statistic.
