Disney later confirmed that season five would be the show’s final season, premiering June 25, 2026. The later announcement also revealed the finale’s central crisis: Sydney, Richie and Sugar must run the restaurant after Carmy leaves the food industry.
What was the season four update?
The initial update was a renewal, not a season-four cancellation or a new season-four release announcement. On July 2, 2025, FX Chairman John Landgraf announced that the series had been picked up for a fifth season following season four’s debut. Disney’s renewal announcement said the earlier season two had won 11 Emmy Awards, the most wins for a comedy series in a single year; that is an awards tally, not a viewership figure.

Landgraf described the show as a fan favorite and said its response, “as seen through incredibly high viewership,” had been spectacular. The announcement supplied no numeric audience total, so there is no official figure in that release to quantify the claim.
Season five is the final season
Disney’s May 6, 2026 announcement clarified the longer-term news: season five would end the series. The season was scheduled to premiere June 25, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu. Disney said all eight episodes would be available to stream on Hulu at debut. Its announcement also described the FX premiere as beginning with the first two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly. These are different release details for the streaming and FX schedules, rather than a single episode-drop format.

The official synopsis starts the morning after Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri), Richard “Richie” Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto (Abby Elliott) discover that head chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) has left both the food industry and the restaurant to them. They face dwindling money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm as they try to pull off one last service and hope to earn a Michelin star.

Disney frames the season’s idea of a “perfect” restaurant around its people, not just its food. Christopher Storer created the series, which is produced by FX Productions. Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas and Matty Matheson are among the additional stars; Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter and Jamie Lee Curtis return in recurring roles for the final season.
