The Ark and the Darkness is a 2024 documentary directed by Ralph Strean and presented by Genesis Apologetics and Sevenfold Films. It argues for Noah’s Flood as a global historical event. You can watch it free through official online options, or choose a standard or Director’s Cut edition; runtimes vary by platform and version.
What is The Ark and the Darkness about?
The documentary presents a case for the biblical Flood as a global event in human history. Its promotional materials say the argument draws on geology, paleontology, fossils, ancient history, volcanism, and earth science. Fathom’s event description states: “Geology, paleontology, the fossil record, ancient history, volcanism, earth science—all of these scientific fields converge on one simple truth: Noah’s Flood actually happened.” That is the film’s promotional framing, not a conclusion independently established by the sources identifying the film.
The producer lists participants and the fields or descriptions associated with them, including geophysics, theology, microbiology, paleontology, engineering, history of geology, genetics, and geology. Those listings describe the documentary’s contributors; they are not an independent audit of their credentials or a scientific review of the film’s claims. [Genesis Apologetics] [Fathom Events]

Streaming, digital, and disc editions
The producer lists streaming and digital options alongside standard and Director’s Cut DVDs and Blu-rays, including multi-language disc options. A church or school screening option is also described through Faith Content Network. Check the seller or provider for current availability, edition, language, and region details before choosing a format. [Genesis Apologetics editions and formats]
How long is the documentary?
There is no single runtime that applies to every listing: platforms identify different editions and durations. The cited listings give these examples:
| Listing | Runtime |
|---|---|
| Apple TV, 2024 documentary listing | 2 hours 5 minutes |
| Prime Video listing | 1 hour 52 minutes |
| Prime Video Director’s Cut listing | 2 hours 24 minutes |
| Genesis Apologetics shortened version | 58 minutes |
These are runtimes shown by the named platforms or provider, not interchangeable measurements of one identical cut. Confirm the edition on the page where you plan to watch. [Apple TV] [Prime Video] [Genesis Apologetics]
Is there a Director’s Cut?
Yes. The producer lists both a standard edition and a Director’s Cut, and Prime Video has a separately labeled Director’s Cut listing. Since the versions can have different runtimes and formats, check the edition name on the product or streaming page rather than relying on a general title search. [Genesis Apologetics] [Prime Video]
Does the film prove that the Flood happened?
The documentary argues that Noah’s Flood was a global historical event, but the available identification and promotional pages establish what the film claims, not whether its scientific case is sound. They do not independently evaluate its interpretations of geology, fossils, or other fields. Viewers assessing the argument should distinguish the film’s thesis and contributors’ presentations from findings established through independent scientific evidence and review.
