The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 is no longer upcoming: it aired in Japan from January 10 through July 4, 2025, across 24 episodes. A September 2024 podcast listing confirms that general director Norihiro Naganuma discussed what viewers could expect, but it does not provide his specific predictions. The clearest detailed account now comes from Season 2 director Akihiro Fudesaka, who later explained how the production built toward key character moments.
What did Norihiro Naganuma say to expect in Season 2?
Crunchyroll’s The Anime Effect episode listing, dated September 6, 2024, says the hosts and The Apothecary Diaries general director Norihiro Naganuma discussed his favorite moments from Season 1 and “what we can expect to see in Season 2.” The listing establishes the subject of their conversation, not the substance of his forecasts. Season 2 has already aired in Japan
Season 2 ran for 24 episodes on Japanese television from January 10 to July 4, 2025, according to Animate Times. MANTANWEB also dates the Japanese broadcast to January through July 2025. What director Akihiro Fudesaka said the season was building toward
In a retrospective interview published October 4, 2026, MANTANWEB’s English page presents Season 2 director Akihiro Fudesaka’s reflections on the production. He highlighted Maomao and Zicui in episodes 45 and 46, focusing on Maomao’s effort to recognize the person she knew as Zicui rather than see her only as Loulan. Fudesaka said the earlier episodes were shaped to make that emotional recognition feel convincing.

How the production used visuals and sound to carry emotion
Fudesaka’s comments point to an approach in which feeling is conveyed through more than dialogue. Why the waterfall “frog” scene needed tonal care
Fudesaka also discussed the waterfall “frog” scene, where the production had to navigate the line between comedy and sexualization. He said he sought perspectives from female staff while working through that choice. He also described shaping the cave and waterfall lighting with the team to keep the setting beautiful and serene. Where to continue with the novels or manga
The anime is based on a light-novel series published by Hero Bunko, an imprint of Imagica Infos, and the franchise also has manga adaptations. These are distinct formats for returning to the story. The cited sources do not identify which novel volume corresponds to the end of Season 2, so they are not enough to recommend a specific volume as the direct continuation.
